Its not a big one,,,but I thought you might like to see it,,,she asked me to fix her push mower,so while I was st that,I told her I was going to write a little story about her tractor. It made her happy! She told me she bought it brand new in 1977,,she is the only person who ever drove and used it. It gets serviced every fall, and if its hot out,,,she will stop ,lift the hood ,and let it cool off hslfway between mowing the lawn.Hers some pictures of it....

Larry, I enjoy your photos. The ladies property looks as well cared for as the old Wheel horse.

Where was the car show? What town? Beautiful main street.

I used to live in NJ. Great state to live in, but totally unappreciated by mid-westerners.

I first lived up in Bergin Co. Franklin Lakes, then in Basking Ridge. Both nice areas but suburban.

Thanks

the car show is somerville every fri all summer, the whole main street, cars parked on each side, and cars cruising main street too
I know Basking Ridge pretty well, that is a nice town.

very nice
I have and have had a lot of similar Wheel Horse Tractors.
With good care and not abused, I honestly think they could last...forever.

I mow with a clone of hers, and have another exact clone that does every mild little tractor job.
have another, dual-range 12hp,
that a relative bought new in the 60's?
This one has ag tires and weights and does work that should be done by a big tractor. It never complains...
watching it pull a 5000lb dead tractor uphill into the shop is a funny sight....(ya can manuever the little WH out around the big tractor after ya get it in)

How how many craftsman mowers does it take to last as long as one Wheelhorse ?

Depends on when it was made - old ones are very well-built .

I sold a 76 B100, same as her's only 10 horse eng., can't walk past a Wheel horse without getting goose bumps. Still have a 1966, 68 and two 1988s and a mongrel JD.

That garden tractor will last her many a year more. Many of the mowers of that time where well built. Not this "price point" designed stuff we have today. They build them to wear out in a short time now so they can sell you another one. People want "new" things now not things that last for a long time.

I got rid of my Wheel Horse tractors a few years ago. I bought a Ford 8N and then a 5' finish mower, plow, disk, cultivator, post auger, sub-soiler. rear blade and modified a 4 wheeler sprayer to 3 point and a JD 4 row planter to 2 row and 3 point. Just didn't use em anymore so I got rid of them. I had a Commander 12, C120, 655 and D180. They were tuff and dependable.

Interestingly, Cecil Pond, the inventor of Wheel Horse chose his colors based on that fact that a lot of farm people had moved to the cities and suburbia. He got paint that was a close as possible to IH red and white without being an exact match. He figured that people who had a connection to farming would associate the Wheel Horse with Farmall tractors that they had grown up around.

The Wheelhorse is my favorite. I've got 4 of them. Drop dead simple to work-on, attach implements and built to last.

Nice looking machine.
