It has been a long day

Cut 20 acres of second cut, after chores. Then chopped 10 acres second cut left from day before. Moved on to baling, got 98 bales off this 16 acre field, have to truck them home at first light and wrap. Son gets the morning milking tomorrow. If I get things done in good time, I can go back to chopping the hay I cut today. Nice weather has me running to get caught up. Bruce

how much twine does one of those bales use compared to an equal number of small kicker type squares? Bill

These bales a 4 foot x 4 foot 6 inches. Never weighed one , but as they are not dry hay ,they are plenty heavy. Way more than 800lb. , more like 1200lb . To put it another way , you don"t want to push them around by hand.I make the bales this size for a very good reason. You see my truck bed is 18" long , and four bales will fill the length of the truck with no waste space, and no over hang.Truck will carry 11 of these wet bales comfortably or 14 dry bales. Bruce

Just a guess Bill , but I would think one of my round bales is getting about the same amount of string as you might use on ten small squares. I could put on more string, or less . But what I am doing now seems to hold together long enough. I could put on net wrap but, these bales will be wrapped in plastic and left outside for winter . If there is any freezing, that net is tough to get off. Bruce
