I managed to get my 16 yo daughter out to run the baler for me tonight after work, we knocked out 245 nice dry bales before the dew settled in, I threw 65 of those in the mow after that. About 200 left for tomorrow on this last field of first cutting. Arranged with a new neighbor to cut some clover/grass mix he has unused right next to another field of mine, may be another 500 bales there. The girl did a nice job tonight, she's smoother on the clutch than her brothers, but a little slow. That's not too bad, after a half day work for me plus baling, I am pooped. 0345 coming around quickly

David, does your tedder have two speeds? My old Niemeyer (now Klaas, I think) has a two speed gear box, high for spreading, low for joining/lifting. I am looking to replace it for next year and would love suggestions.

This is a 3 year old AGCO that was bought used this season, it is single speed, think it is 16 or 18' spread.

Good help is the main hang up for us. I managed to get 2 guys to help my dad and I yesterday to mow 7 loads (1050+ bales) and today we baled another 4 1/2 for around 680 bales or so. Had to change a tire that blew on the half load (and reason why it was a half load) and when I was pulling wagons home with my truck,I dropped one behind the barn and find a piece of junk in the weeds with my tire and put it through the sidewall.

With my spare at home I drove dad's truck home tonight and threw my spare in so I have it tomorrow.

Whatever we don't get done this weekend dad has a guy lined up on Monday to come and do large squares and we can say we're done.

Wish we could catch a break in the weather . We've only put up 350 or so and I mowed 2nights ago of course it's raining this morning . Long range forecast here in central new york looks like rain every other day . I could sell 3000 bales right now if I could get it made. Old timer down the road used to say a dry year is bad but a really wet year is worse.

Everyone here is getting tedders, it seems to cut drying time in half. I tedded right after moco so the hay was wet to minimize the damage. It seemed to work best at about 1/2 throttle.
