Does anyone know what this weed is. could be a flower, ha. "A weed is an unwanted
plant". and I sure don't want this thing ! Very prickly stem ! Been fighting it
for 6 to 7 years. Try to stop all seed pods, but it comes up in a new place..
Did it comes in my horse grain ? ? I have a couple name ideas. What is best killer of it
?

Do you have a picture ?
Sounds like part of that danm-da-bull cow vetch invasive.
You can find control technics at http://mdc.mo.gov/your-property/problem-plants-and-animals/invasive-plants/crown-vetch-control

Common name here in SE Iowa is Horse Nettle.

It will get a yellow berry on it as it matures.

Overgrazing is what spreads and allows it to flourish around here. As long as it doesn't get too dry and the grass doesn't get eaten down too much, it stays under control. I would imagine 2,4-D would work well on it, but others can help you with that.

Thanks everyone. I have noticed the thicker grass areas seem to hold it back.
I have no grazing now but did a few years ago. After that it seemed to pop up.

i have that here but the underside of the leaf is purple,...was told it was purple nightshade

We've always called it buffalo Burr in these parts but it is Horse Nettle. You need good gloves or a long handled pliers to pull it by hand.

I'd call it Bullnettle. Has small green tomatoes on it in late summer. Has a root system that goes to China, so use 2, 4 d on it. Chopping it will just make it mad. True Son

Spray or wipe some glyphosate(round-up) on it. Spraying will kill the grass around it. 2-4d with a spritz of tordon RTU has worked well for me on tough broadleaf weeds using a hand sprayer, won't kill the grass.

Horse nettle. It comes back from a tuber like root. Roundup will kill off what is above ground, but it will come back in a few weeks. It is the only weed that my current corn herbicide program doesn't handle well(roundup + trippleflex), it will get shaded out shortly, but will be back again next year.

that looks more like hairy vetch:
Vicia villosa, known as the hairy vetch, fodder vetch or winter vetch, is a plant native to Europe and western Asia. It is a legume, grown as a forage crop. Wikipedia

Yep, Horse Nettle. Had it identified buy one of the local professionals a month ago. As much Round Up that has been sprayed on that farm in continuous corn soybean rotation Round Up must not phase it.
