Oliver hydraulic pump

I am asking this question about an Oliver 1650 in particular but the gist applies to any older tractor. The pump is a bit worn but was never very strong. Rather than simply replace with the same pump, is there a way to "turbo" a pump. As in, make a pump that will fit this tractor but will turn out a more modern GPM? It just seems like a step sideways to spend hundreds on dollars on rebuilding a pump that wasn't particularly great to begin with. And I am sure that many tractors of this vintage suffer from the same drawback.

Just a thought...

Thanks,
Jake

Jake, try the Oliver forum. I had a 1650 with the pump driven off the crankshaft up front. It was a backhoe and used it for loading and had great lifting ability. June sure was a terrible month for getting dry hay in! My mother in law told me it's rained again in Roxbury. J. S. or rrlund will know what you need! Greg

If you're talking about the original pump inside of it,I don't know if you can even get those rebuilt or if it would be worth it. They're only $385 for a new aftermarket. They have plenty of power and capacity.

IMHO the biggest problem with Oliver hyd. is the small hyd capacity . Back in there day they were state of the art but with today's new stuff that requires higher pressures and more gallons per min. you come up short . You could maybe do a ft. mount pump off the crank like on the oliver Industrial and add a fifteen or larger aux . tank and a oil cooler inft. of the rad. I know that even with a new pump installed on my one friend's 1950 we can not run the bale wrapper vary long before the oil gets to hot and the wrapper slows down . We have to use my 806 on it as it has over twice the hyd. capacity and does not heat as bad.
