Slow Alfalfa

We had a good dry week the end of May and got a first cutting of Alfalfa put up. It has been REAL wet since then, and the second cutting just does not seem to be growing. It is so wet water is standing in a few places, and damp ground most everywhere else.

Anyone else seeing slow Alfalfa?

I just finished cutting the only field I got first cutting done near on time- alfalfa is blooming despite only being about 12-18 tall, grass hardly recovered at all. Should be baling my lawn instead...

Central Iowa, I fought damp ground hampering the drydown on the first cutting, now as David G. has said with some kind of precipitation every 3-4 days my alfalfa is beginning to bloom but is a little short also. The 4.5 inches we recieved a week ago has left the ground saturated. Need some HOT and DRY here. gobble

Looks like we may get a few good hay days ,but some of the fields I want to take as dry hay, first cut are too wet to drive on. So I guess I will try to start second cut at the home farm and run it through the chopper.

Going to bale some today in mid michigan. Looks more like 4th cutting rows than second. First was about 1/3 less than last year also. I keep up on soil tests and fertilize accordingly. Just haven't had enough heat here to make it go. Plenty of moisture.
