Governor john Deere b

Working on governor control on a john Deere b.
Took cover off on flywheel side to check teeth on gear. Seems be good shape, now on replace it back in housing area can you just push back into place or will it have to all be re-done? I read where it said u had to remove mag no off other side to push back into place? I placed it back with no problem what so ever, and turn flywheel by hand everything seems to be on time? By pushing it back in place and not moving gears would everything go back like it was?

You got lucky ! Many times the mag coupling does not go back in and then people draw up the bolts and WHAM ! break the mag.

yes
If the cover pushed back in easy by hand then you are lucky and likely did not damage anything. The ones that do damage stuff draw the bolts up with a wrench to get the cover up tight.

I just took right hand pushed cover back lightly and attached the 4 bolts and took wrench and turn them up snug. I rotated flywheel again easy and after rotation the mag makes Its turn and clicks...... When I removed cover easy it just pop off and never moved any gears what so ever when doing so. After inspection I just pushed it back and attached the bolts back normal. If did damage mag I wouldn't think it would rotate and click any ?

Easy to check the timing. Just rotate it slow and as the LH impulse mark on the flywheel passes the - on the side cover of the tranny the mag should snap and if the wires are on correctly spark should then appear at the # 1 spark plug which is the flywheel side. It will spark on compression and exhaust.
What year B ? if a later pressed frame one the marks are in the center little cover of the flywheel cover at the bottom of the hole.

Ok Mike so I took mag off put wire in and turn mag has spark so must be good other than timming tractor again ha. Question is if mag works and I put cover back and after push gear back in and screw bolts back on ,fan is in correct level area for operation. Is everything that I can't see inside guts of governor housing in correct place for operation if everything lines up right ?
