PTO coupler pin question

posted a few days ago about getting the new pin to move freely in the PTO yoke coupler. Cleaned more rust out of the hole and got things working pretty good.

Next question. are you supposed to peen the opening a bit to keep the pin from falling out when not in use. It won't come out if mounted on the tractor PTO but when not in use it could definitely fall out. There is no other keeper or way to lock the pin in the hole on the PTO yoke.

Thanks.

A heavy piece of wire will work, too, or a washer that will fit over the end and squeezed.....

PJH, the "safety" version does NOT have a protruding pin with retainer clip.

And I think the OP has figured out what he needs to do to keep it from falling out.

??

where would the wire/washer go?

The style of mine is like the picture in Bob's reply.

Yep, that is the style of mine. Picked up the new one at Rural King. I presume tsc would have them too.

thanks.

More or less have to stake the hole at the top around the button, and not to much to make it not let the pin slide.

That looks like a newer style. I think there's a small retainer ring that slips into them to hold them after the pin has been put in. The retainer is taped in after the pin is in, and is near impossible to get back out if you want to.

I have a Ford 501 mower I can't find a pin to fit, tho I didnt try too hard. I had a junk pile deal that the pin would fit.

I have a Vermeer 605F baler I really, really can't find a pin to fit, the original fell out somewhere someplace in a field; all replacements I have found the pin it too long, if the other dimentional are at all close. Not sure what. To look for there? This one is a pain as I have a cobbled deal......

on your vermeer the PTO was probably made by 1 of 2 or 3 companies (Weasler, bondioli (sp?) ). If you can figure out what brand PTO shaft you Should be able to call them and figure out what pin. a "good dealer" could help you too.

Weasler had some stuff on line but no instructions (obviously).
