Plain work trucks?

They don't show them on Toyota's website, but in the past week I've seen several regular Tacoma pickups that look like no frills work trucks. All with regular cabs. I'm sure that Toyota will make them if the dealers band together and order sufficient quantity of units. The ones that I've seen were a nice shade of grey.

Toyota is moving it's world headquarters to Plano, TX. 100 acre campus some buildings 5 stories, jobs for 4k employees, some transferees some local new hires. Locals are griping about current traffic and don't want any more.....whine whine whine. It's all over the news. Said they should be in it by end of next year.

They make a Tundra work truck. I've got a cargo van so my Tundra has all the frills.

I have a plain 2014 Tacoma. No electric windows, no key fob door lock. 4 cyl 5 speed, steel rims. Oh, it gets 28 mpg sometimes 29. It does have air and power steering, also a radio with CD player and Blue Tooth.

I actually lived in Plano, Texas for five years, but I moved out of that hell-hole in '97. At that time, I believe it was one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.
I wouldn't go back there for any amount of money in the world.

My boss and I were just talking yesterday about how it's so hard to find just a regular work truck anymore. They build them all like Cadillacs is seems.

You can order em but the vast majority as sent to the dealers without the dealer ordering anything. They build and send the ones they know will sell. Most people don't want a regular cab plain jane work truck anymore. They want all the chewies and lickies (new phrase for bells and whistles). To be honest I want 6 way electric adjustable seating. This old body don't like hard bench seats built for a midget (someone under 6'3"). I want power steering too. 4X4 too. Lets see, air, tilt and cruise. Don't need a stereo. Power windows I can take of leave. Bottom line has to be looked at too. At trade in time lacking all the good stuff is going to bite you in the butt too. Cause the dealer then has to resell it. And darn few want something like a work truck. No matter how you slice it ordering a full sized work truck with trailer towing a package and a few options is still going to cost close to 30K or north of there. Watch the specials and you can pick up a loaded 4X4 for close to the same money.

I know what you mean... Way too much fragile stuff to go wrong! Given a choice, I'd have PS, PB, AC, analog gauges, electric locks, electric windows, VINYL SEATS and RUBBER MATS!

When I was looking for a basic truck the closest I could find was my 05 F150. no power anything. I don't think I will buy another Ford. The bed is too high for me. Stan

I bought a 2015 CHEVROLET 3500HD crew cab with DURAMAX last fall and ordered it with pretty much everything including bucket seats and center console. It is an LT, but was able to order it with the carpet delete package which puts in rubber floors. In Northern Michigan on a farm, its nice to vacuum the floors and take a damp cloth to get rid of the sand. Not to mention the snow in the winter. With carpet, the floors never dry out in the winter. Absolutely love the truck. Not fond of the D.E.F. though. It is the only Tangier Orange truck for miles around. Can't hide in it that's for sure.

My daughter worked for Toyota in Florence, Ky and they suddenly announced one day that they were closing the entire building and moving to Texas. This must be it. She didn't go,

McKinney is now the new chief. Everything is going North and West. McKinney is unbounded on both and has room to grow to it's capabilities and being the county seat helps things out. Whole N. TX. place is a mad house. Glad when I retired, I don't have to go back there except on very rare occasions.

I had a 4 cyl. 20R engine with a 4 sp. in a little Toyota back years ago, late '70's. Felt like driving a tin can (thin sheet metal) and bounced you to death. The 20R was overhead cam and you had to adjust the valves every couple of months with my driving it to work. What really got me was the mileage seldom got to 19 and I could have gotten a full sized 6 chebby with a mushy ride and got that or near it.

On pull, yes it would do that if you put 3-400# in the bed. I used to carry half a dozen bags of sacrete in the back to smooth things out somewhat.

Also had the Toyota Silica with the 20R, same story on gas, 1977 year-model, the one that mimicked the Ford GT Mustang fastback, black, alum wheels, 2 shades of blue and one silver pinstriping. One of the first cars to have sensors for all the vital functions. Bought it new and after 200k miles with wife and 4 kids trying to and couldn't tear it up.....sold it when one of the kids totaled it. Still mechanically sound, didn't burn oil, smooth running, shifted easily. Never had either in the shop for anything.

I've had both off and on, and have had no issues with automatics, and it beats shifting a 5 speed in heavy heavy traffic/stop lights with a trailer. Had my last 5 speed in a full size truck period, and not many want one when it is time to resell or trade, so even though I paid less initially, it is worth far less when it was time to sell. I got lucky and found someone who actually wanted one. But I have yet to see much benefit to one in todays world.
