What is it with AGCO?

This morning I needed an obsolete planter part. I talked to the parts person at three different AGCO dealerships, Robinson, Dumont, and McKim, all in Iowa. Everyone was very knowledgeable and did everything they could to help me out. My obsolete part is on it's way. I haven't had good service like that for years, since Wanda at PocaVista. Makes me wish I had more Allis equipment.

That's a symptom of a good dealership. We have an awesome Deere dealership with great techs, but the guy at the parts counter is a real piece of work. I'll guarantee he's loosing them more business than the guys in the shop are holding on to. I know the owner and have always refrained from shop talk with him, but when everyone you run into complains about him maybe it's time.

I get most of my vehicle and a lot of tractor parts from a regional parts store (A-Line). If they can't find it on the computer they pull the books out from under the counter. Sometimes I have to wait while they serve a customer before me but I know when it is my turn I'll get great service.

There was a pipe supply store in Dallas Tx. Guy started it when he came home from WW II.Go in and tell him what you were building. He could tell you what you needed. We used him a lot when I worked for Cat generators. Had and old Mexican that had been with him since day one. Just as smart. He died in 1977 son took over. Fired the Mexican changed all the rules. Closed the doors in six months.

I went to Prax-Air a couple weeks ago to exchange a blue tank from TSC for the welder, and get a few other things I needed. No-one was out on the sales floor, but then a guy came out of his office with a phone to his ear. Said he'd been on hold for 10 minutes already do he'd try to help me while he was waiting. He was ringing me up, holding his phone to his ear, and when the phone on the counter rang he answered that too, so he had 2 phones and he was still able to help me.

I was impressed at the multi-functioning he was doing and was happy he didn't make me wait. The local Prax-Air gets just about all of our business.

(quoted from post at 09:01:00 06/24/15) The old time parts guys are getting scarce. Luckily, our local AGCO dealer is a good one. He'll even find you aftermarket parts if the AGCO ones are crazy expensive

And our closest AGCO is joke. Basically their method of selling new equipment is telling you that parts for yours in NLA but AGCO parts look up says it's available. When you point that out to them they tell you well then you get it yourself. AGCO's corporate office only says "he's a good dealer, sells lots of equipment". No wonder AGCO isn't popular around here.

I get that kind of service from Hofferbert Sales in Bannister Michigan. That's why almost everything I have is Agco based or short line stuff that they sell.

If you are gonna name names I just as well tell you Wanda is now parts manager at Vetters in Storm Lake. and I totally agree with you she is one of the best.

I used to get New Idea, Hesston, and A-C parts from CJ Wonsidler Brothers in Quakertown PA and Oliver/White and sometimes New Idea parts from Miller Equipment in Bechtelsville PA. Both places could find stuff that others said couldn't be found. Unfortunately both places are gone now. Binkley & Hurst in Lititz PA picked up AGCO when Hernley's in Elizabethtown PA closed, and brought some of their guys along. They are doing pretty good with the AGCO parts now. MM Weaver in Leola PA is the place for MF parts for me. They were Massey dealers for 20 years before Ferguson entered the picture!

I knew a businessman once that used to hand out buttons that said: "You gotta wanna". That pretty well sums up good dealers and bad dealers; some wanna be good and others don't want to put out the effort.

Guess you could say that about most any business.

I don't know anything about Agco but I ordered a fuel line for an old 720D Starting engine yesterday and the UPS man delivered it this morning. It wasn't cheap but it was the exact one with the right fittings and fit like a glove. Sometimes it is really surprising what they come up with for a nearly 60 year old piece of machinery.

I agree, very helpful, very knowledgeable, willing to look for hard to find parts for our old Oliver tractors. About 8-10 miles due east of me.

agco is ten dollars cheaper than fiat agri on swather guards and a dollar cheaper on sections around here
