Radiator Leak

JOB

I have a very slow leak in a radiator. I would take it out and take it to a shop but it is not an easy or quick job. Is there a stop leak that is better than another? Or do I go to NAPA or O'Rileys and just buy any stop leak that is available? Any recommendations?

Years ago , I had a leak in my jeep radiator while hunting and I always carried the aluminun fines in a small container ,--dumped that in when it was hot and it's still working . I don't know if that stuff is still on the market but it sure worked for me .

Not saying this is the solution, but I dumped in one can of O'Reilly's "Bars-Leak" STOP-LEAK into my old Chebby, and it slowed down the leak, dumped in a second can, and the leaks have stopped. I guess. Don't see any, at least.

Temp fix. Be ready for blocked heater core, lack of cooling when it really gets hot, radiator core circulation problems, and other trouble. Best to repair the problem now to save money in the long run. Tom

An old rad.repair man once told me to use Mendtite rad.sealer. It is liquid form and will not plug anything other than the leak. I have been useing this for years now with much success. You can purchase this at Car Quest.

If the leak is down below the liquid coolant level the stop leak might work. If it's in the upper tank, it probably won't unless you can keep the leak submerged with pressurized coolant.

Here's another vote for Bar's Stop Leak. I have used it on a few occasions years ago and the only thing it stopped up was the leak. Used for radiators and a heater core. No further leaks. TDF

The best stuff I have found was Bars leak copper and have used it in a number of machines
