Coolant Flush

Anybody have any ideas on flushing out a coolant system? It's on an unstyled JD A. I have the upper and lower coolant pipes off and the radiator off. It's pretty flakey inside the top engine water port and I'm sure in the water jackets as well, and radiator. I don't want to bake and blast the radiator or take apart the engine. The tractor is pretty original and the engine runs fine.

So, do I just flush the engine out thru the port on top of the engine with a garden hose and same with the radiator?

Thanks for the help!

Well if wasn't apart I would say fill the engine cooling system with vinegar and then run it till good and hot let cool them back flush with water fro a garden hose. I have done a good many that way and it cleans them up real good

My 1950 Oliver 77 would run hot years ago. I drained the system filled it with vinegar and ran it a couple times. Then make a hose set up that went in the block drain plug hole so I could hook a garden hose to it and let it back flush for an hour or so and it has not gotten hot since

I just did a Farmall A a couple months ago. I boiled 3 gallons of straight vinegar and put it in a 5 gallon pail used an old 3/4" submersible pump and just pumped it in the top and caught it in the bucket. Did a respectable job. After I put the system back together, I strained and filled system with the vinegar and ran for another hour. The vinegar actually came out pretty clean. I then filled with fresh water and mowed for an hour then drained and filled with coolant.

Thanks for the helpful advice everyone. I will definitely use it.

My dad has a Farmall A. He bought it in pretty bad shape, so decided to put a 4.3 Chevy V6 in it. Built the frame, widened the wheels 3" in front, 4" in back and bigger tires. Pretty nice. Same clutch, hood length, an starter.
