Chevy C50 brakes, a little help needed

So I have the grain truck up to the mechanic. Probably something I could figure out but just too busy right now...

Here is the diagnosis. I am not a brake guy, so apologies if I say this wrong. There is a hydrovac unit that assists the brakes so I don't lift my bum off the seat trying to stop the truck. This unit is shot and needs a rebuild or replace. Looks like they were pretty much all the same from 1964-1979 on these trucks. I would like to have it rebuilt, if possible. Anyone know a source for this or have any other ideas? Autozone apparently sends them out to someplace called A1 Cardone (or Car Done?) but no time frame or quote on a price. Appreciate any ideas anyone might have.
 
Bought one for the 1978 c50 I used to have 12 years back or so. Just got a reman unit from Fleetpride here in Toledo. Seems it was around 150 or so back then.
 
Just make sure theres no rags covering up the vent under the seat that will make the pedal hard also,happened in one of our old dump chev dump trucks
 
Be sure to check the vacuum check valve that is on the firewall near the engine. If it is stuck open it will let gas fumes go thru the hose to the hydro-vac when the engine is off. This will in time will deterate the diaphram inside the hydr-vac.
 
Check out the Big Bolt forum at Stovebolt dot com. There has been numerous discussions there about hydrovacs, including where to get them rebuilt or replaced.
 
As mentioned, head over to Stovebolt.com and look in their tech article. IIRC they mention where they got a rebuilt hydrovac. Else there is a long list of parts vendors on that website somewhere.
 
Another thing to do is replace the vacuum hoses. Just because they look good and don't appear to be collapsing, does not mean they are good. The plys of the rubber can separate on the inside and squeeze flat. Guess how I learned that?
