Need to get GOOD maintainer for stored diesel tractor. Few days or weeks ago there was good recommendations. Help on what to buy. Thanks Bill

I highly recommend a batteryminder 12248, works for me. I also recommend a Battery conductivity tester, Midtronics PBT300. Both you will have to buy online, Amazon or ebay. Then go to NAPA and get a good hydrometer with a thermometer.
There is no need for a trickle charger unless you have something draining the battery. If you don't have a drain and you think a trickle charger is the answer, you are mistaken. You have a battery with a dead cell. Which you can confirm with a good hydrometer. Desulfating will not do any good at this point.
I have over 20 lead acid batteries and my batteryminder is used 24/7/365 desulfating up to 4 batteries at a time. Desulfating only extends the life of a battery. Batteries have an inherent problem, sulfates form on the plates and they don't last forever.
A dying battery will show good with battery conductivity tester as soon as you charge it. Next day or two, it can't hold the charge. Usually has a dead cell or two. I use hydrometer to confirm dead cell.

After you figure out what you want for a charger, if you are curious as to whether or not your battery is "good to go", I test mine to tell for sure.
I bought a variable resistor pack battery tester from HF for less than 50 bucks. That's my way of finding out if the battery is good. Dial her up to a couple hundred amps and monitor the terminal voltage. Mine has red and green scales. If she will hold 11v at 200a she will start your diesel tractor on the coldest day.....assuming it's startable; good compression, clean (inside where the current flows) and tight connections.....opinion, BTDT

The real test is time. I just had a 5 year old suddenly die. One day good, one day dead. Wouldn't hold a charge overnight. It has been desaturated about 3 months or less. This thing just suffered a major heart attach.

George where is good place to buy the desulfaing battery minder? Got a cockshutt 40 diesel only start few times a year. sure want those batteries to last. I will try to post picture of F20 starter from your ford starting motor.
Northern hydraulics or ebay has the battery minder brand... I buy them 10 at a time off of ebay... 13 tractors 5 lawn mowers and 5 farm trucks and 3 kawasaki mules. Also have 13 old motorcycles and use them on the 12 volt models. The 6 volt versions are magneto types so its not as important on them.

The one I got isn't cheap, $145. Ebay has them, so does amazon. Not found in stores near you. I use mine all the time. However, it does extend the life, but all batteries will sooner or later find it's way to the recycle r. I've had mine almost 5 years and in that time I lost 2 batteries out of over 20. My oldest mower battery is a 2007 and it still works.
After looking at your 2 broken chargers and I was able to fix the HF charger and not the suchmaker, I wouldn't buy that brand.
I even use my batteryminder to charge batteries on the 8 amp scale. I've yet to damage a battery with it. I can't say that about a 15 amp crapsman smart charger.
The battery minder comes with a 5 year guarantee too, I think.
