,to all of you fellas that know , thanx ,,. my nephew got a little carried away and broke the fuel return elbow , on my deere 4020 diesel .. it has pencil type injectors and the elbow has a baffle stopper in the end , how important is that baffle , and what is the purpose of that baffle ?, other than that baffle in the elbow , it is a standard brass elbow I can get at my local hardware store ,, for 2 bux today , verses 40 bux next week from muther dear

Been a while. But if remember correctly. It is a check valve to stop air from bleeding into the system.Return fuel goes out when running. When shut off it closes to keep air from getting into the system. Since most return lines go to the top of the tank.

Check valve in return line is designed to keep a small amount of pressurized fuel in inj for lubrication & cooling of inj pump. It has nothing to do with keeping fuel from bleeding out of pump. Many tractors with failing IP drive couplers have be run for several yrs after glass check ball was removed because of plugging problems.

(quoted from post at 15:44:46 05/28/15) Thanks Jim. Like I said been a while and since my stroke things are still a little fuzzy.

No Problem sorry to hear about your stroke. I think older age causes me to make incorrect statements.
