Another bad idea - burnt tractor

Was offered a 2500$ deal on 10,000 lbs of scrap metal that used to look just like my main tractor. Tires 1/2 burnt off it. Cab gutted, paint and hoses gone from most of the machine. Injection pump aluminum house and starter melted off. Loader lost 1/2 the paint, rims have a lot of paint left on them. 4wd front axle still on it and looks semi-ok.

I could use about 1500$ worth of castings off it and if the triple remotes could be resealed I could use them on mine.

At the current low price of scrap, its only worth about 500$ at a yard. What do salvage yards pay for burnt stuff?

From my experience they seem to have a flat price they'll pay for a tractor no matter what shape it's in. It used to amaze me when we'd go to Archbold, that the burnt tractors in skid row would bring as much as complete tractors that weren't burned to the ground. I sold a parts tractor with a blown engine to Stamm Equipment and three runners with weak engines to what is now Worthington but had a different name at the time, none of them paid much. I know full well it wouldn't have taken very many parts off them to get their money back.
I called Worthington two years or so ago and asked what they'd give for a running JD 1020 gas. They offered $800 if I'd deliver it.

I've seen ridiculous prices paid for burned tractors. I've also seen rebuilt tractors that were not too badly burned have lengthy electrical problems. Count me out on a burned tractor or a flooded car.

No rebuilding thats for sure. It has a computer controlled main clutch and pto. A friend helped repair a JD4755 (I think it was, about a 130 hp 6 cyl, mfwd) that burned. It was a 7 year project, my time is worth something.

I'm about 8 years into rebuilding a 5500Narrow that had a wiring harness fire- very little damage, really. I went too far into it, then ran into a few things that are no longer available from Mother Deere, or are not compatible even when all are new. Embarrassing, and expensive.
