John Deere 4400

I'm new to this forum and I ain't even sure this is the right place to ask this but I'm looking at a john Deere 4400 combine and I was wondering what to look for. Are there any major defects that these combines had. And what is a good price for one in pretty good condition. I'm located in central Mississippi.

Look for wear through under the augers and if it has a chopper look for cracks in the sheet and frame from the walkers back. Otherwise just the usual, check the sieves and walkers for damage, the cylinder/concave for bent or worn bars, chains and belts and such. The 4400 were a lot lighter and had thinner metal than the 66/7700 and don't last as many hours.

They seem to be good machines. What I dont like is they have too many moveing parts! If given a choice between a 4400 and a 95,95 hands down.

Had a 4420 which just a late 4400 with different decals and hyd unloading auger swing. I had mine for 16 seasons, bought it with a 1000 hours sold it with 4000 hours. To me it was a good machine if kept up but like DeltaRed said lots of moving parts. Countershaft bearings are kind of a pain one side is under the seat, not the handiest place to get at. Also it seemed to me the sheet metal was thin, easy to wear a hole under the augers. Plenty of power.

Thanks guys these older combine are new to me. Does anybody have an idea of what one might be worth in good condition.
