I must have been lucky but I never got stopped for any of those inspections in the 38 years I drove. I think they like you road drivers better than us pedal run drivers LOL !

Suspect the road agents might tend to leave the locals alone because they have local access to lawyers and the employers might not be shy about supporting them, but then I have a suspicious mind.

I got pulled over a few years ago and the officer was very complete (picky) in his inspection. Decided he would put me out of service and have the truck impounded. It would have to be repaired and inspected by a local shister shop before he would release it. I told him I am retired and was driving as a favor for a friend so I have all the time in the world. And the owner's brother is an attorney in this state so we would see the officer in court. We would start adding up the charges against the officer the next morning. Nice officer decided he could let me off with a warning. I still would not sign it so he tore it up and told me to get out of his county. No problem, I am gone.

The company that I drove for covered four states around the lower end of Lake Michigan ( Indiana,Michigan, upper 1/2 of Illinois, and lower 1/3 of Wisconsin) out of one terminal and were home every night.

Our MN guys should spend more time looking over construction trucks and trailers. Passed a 350 pulling a track skid steer this morning on 35E. No chains visible on the back and only saw 1 over the bucket on the front. Crap like that scares me more than any tractor trailer.

I can guarantee being local does nt stop you from being stopped at all. I have not been stopped for 8 weeks, over due.

I have always found that the so-called road inspection week is no different than any other week. I never got stopped any more or less during those weeks. Kind of a big YAWN.
In any case, we should ALL be running LEGAL - ALL of the time - not just when we think we are more likely to be stopped. Safety takes no vacations.

About every time I went across scales with Haz-mat placards out I was flaged around back for inspection. The only thing is they couldn't find anything to write me a ticket.

I will repeat myself by noting that in the 6 years I spent as a DOT cop out of 22 years total, I had the best time on the job. Truckers, the real ones, were a joy to deal with. The other kind of "trucker"....well, you reap what you sow.

Dot officers have always been good to me too. This guy was pleasant, did his job quickly, and sent me on
my way. I've never had a bad experience with a dot or hyway patrol from any state, altho Minnesota and
Illinois troopers have said some really bizarre stuff to me. Lol. The county and city cops are another
matter tho.

Had 2 of our drivers get stopped yesterday. Minor things on one truck (no fine), popped the other for the doors on the reefer motor. They werent latched and had a bungee cord keeping them closed. Driver checked the fluids before pulling off and he couldnt get them to close, and had a load that had to be delivered, so he stretched a bungee cord over them until he cold get it back to the shop. Guy cut him a break, told him to call when it was fixed and he'd tear up the ticket.

Back in the late 90's I was coming south out of Alberta, when I got to where I could see the U.S. border there were about a dozen cops standing there drinking coffee. I looked around and the only truck to be seen was me, figured I was going to be the object lesson for the day. When I got close one cop stepped away from the crowd, took a quick look and waved me through. I don't know if it was because I kept the equipment clean and legal or they didn't want to interrupt a good BS session. That was as close as I ever came to being checked during inspection weeks.
