o/t Audi TT bent connecting rod

I know this has nothing to do with tractors but it is engine related. I bought an Audi tt 225hp a couple of months ago with a very loud ticking/knocking noise from the engine, I bought it in the full knowledge it had issues. Took off the oil pan and initially found a brocken end to an oil squirter, I then looked up into the engine to find a bent connecting rod. Long story short I dismantled the engine, replaced the oil squirter, rod etc and bolted everything back up. Changed the turbo boost control valve (thought this could have been what allowed the engine to over boost) and the cause of the bent rod. What do you guys think caused the bent rod? Car running nicely again, no noises and smooth power delivery. Any thoughts welcome.

Over boost equals overcharged cylinder results in a bent rod. At a certain point of boost and over charge the air fuel mixture "looks like" a solid mass and we all know you can't compress a liquid or a solid. Local diesel shop had a 5.9l Cummins that some nitwit had put dual turbo's on. Over boosted it and bent every rod. If you have ever seen a diesel rod, you would find it hard to believe anything that massive could be bent with out breaking. As long as the rod journal wasn't damaged you should be okay. Lucky it wasn't more cylinders. One more thought, it could also be a sticking injector on that cylinder. I don't know if that is a common rail system or independent injection system. If it is common rail, I would think about having the injectors cleaned and inspected.

I absolutely love mine. Don't know what bent your rod, but pay attention to the timing belt. They are good for about 75,000 miles. All kinds of bad can happen when they fail. Did about $5,000 damage to this one.
