Rear tire removal

I need to remove a tire from a rim and don't wan't to save the tire or tube. I have no tire tools, so want to cut it off. I will then get it sand blasted.

Good choice. Are you looking for advice on how to cut it off? A saws-all and/or a right angle grinder with a cutoff wheel would be my weapons of choice..

If you are not wanting to save the tire or the tube, then just about any kind of prybar will serve as a tire tool. Even your grandfathers ancient wrecking bar will get the job done.

A sawzall will also work, but you still need to break the bead on the tire to get it away from the rim.

An angle grinder will cut the bead, but it can be tough to do it without getting into the rim. Cold chisel is quicker and easier.

I guess I am getting old and tired (no pun intended), but I just take my tires and rims to a tire shop and let the tire monkey break the beads. They can have it broke and off the rim in a few minutes and all you gotta do is watch.

Considering the value of used tires (tractor I assume) these days, I'd consider doing it the right way. Even a bald tire is worth $100.00 in the right size.

They must do things different up in NY, wow I can't imagine anyone paying $100 for a bald tractor tire. It makes alot of sense cutting them off ... 10 minutes with a sawzall and an angle grinder. You save a little money on labor and disposal, and on an old tractor you can take care of the rust and sharp edges yourself and not trust the guy in the shop who might be in hurry.

I've never removed a rear tractor tire that was simply "just bald". All that I have removed had much more serious issues, such as cracks big enough to stick your thumb in, and even cracks big enough for the tube to poke through.
