Never understimate overspray and new use for hand cleaner

My boat has not had a good cleaning in several years. The gloss coat seemed dulled even though it is stored inside and there was grease in some places. I mixed up dawn dish washing solution and purple power, then put some goop hand cleaner on the the rag. I started getting a mixture of grease and red over spray off the clear coat.

It was stored in my shop, I now cover it with a complete tarp but did not in the past.

Personally I wouldn't be washing the boat with dish soap or purple power unless I was planning to paint. These products alone are enough to dull the clear coat. You would be better off using car wash detergent.

Best solution for overspray removal is the "clay block", available at quality paint stores and now auto parts stores as well. Wash and wet the surface and rub it down with the clay, kneading the clay as you go to keep a clean surface. Works great to remove the brake dust/little rust spots that now adheres to cars. The soft clay lifts the contaminant and carries it without scratching the clear coat. A good arm workout, as well (wax on, wax off).

spent most of my life with my Harley parked in my shop.
always careful, and always covered when painting.
But, that darn overspray must be alive, since it can defy gravity and all.
Finally got tired of carefully waxing the overspray off it.
Bought an Amish shed, reinforced the floor and the roof(snow load) and park it in there now.
Should have done it years ago.

I wanted to get rid of the shop oil film, the dawn was sitting there, and I have had good luck with purple power.
