Want to replace CFLs with LEDs

I know I can get free CFL from power company, but I only like to use the daylight CFLs, not the yellow CFLs. Lately my CFLs don't last very long. So, what Brand LED's do you use? What size led is about the same as an old 100w? What's the cheapest place to buy the best ones that will replace a regular bulb? Thanks,
George

I seems "CREE" is the "best" (LOL, LOVE that term) brand, but I've used lots of basic ones from WaldoWorld with great success (so far), and they have become quite reasonable in price.

A 100 Watt conventional bulb puts out about 1600 lumens, and equivalent LED lamp will use in the 17 to 19 Watt range.

If you want "daylight", look for a 5000ºK LED, for light similar to an incandescent, grab a 2700ºK LED.

The least expensive place that I've seen LED bulbs is Costco. Lowes & HD are much higher; even Sam's Club is higher.

Menards has some good led prices of you watch the sales.

Anything to get away from those junk curly bulbs, what a joke they are.

Had much better luck with led bulbs.

Our electric company will give you 3 CFLs and 1 LED bulb. They where pushing the CFLs but are now pushing towards the LEDs. Over the last year I have converted half my lights to LED ( circuits on backup generator). Try the 75 watt equivalent in a LED they are very brite. I buy the midrange priced LED bulbs. The cheap bulbs do not have the life span of the more expensive bulbs. One thing nice about LED bulbs is they don't get hot you can put your hand on an LED that has been on for hours and it won't burn you.

Why do you think you are having so much trouble with cfl's? Do you have abnormally high voltage? We have had great luck with them, maybe lost 2 in 10 years.

I must be lucky, I can get free CFL's and my electric company lowered my fixed monthly bill a few dollars. It used to be $135 plus tax and now it going to be $132. Not bad for my old total electric shack that I heat with baseboard heat.

Just a little poke here. The "Daylight" color bulbs are in the 6000K range. If you want screaming bright color I don't mean "bright" as in a lot of light, The color will trick your eyes. Home desrot has that test set up with several color lamps. I love the 6000K cause it looks as if the sun is out. Judge for yourself. LEDs are FAR better and are getting better all of the time!

Most of the CFL's we've had had bad light and lasted about as long as a dollar store incandescent. And, if you break one you're supposed to call the hazmat team. Really brilliant advancement in engineering.

And furthermore ......

I have 1 or 2 CFL bulbs that have lasted several years, but I have purchased several others that didn't last as long as a common incandescant. I've even had 1 or 2 that didn't last one day. The quality is very inconsistent. I will either go to LEDs, or back to incandescants.

out of 30 or so cfls, I have replaced 4 in 15 years... and one because it was dropped. Whats up with them going bad?

The 3 way cfls dont last, the normal ones last for years and years. Have them outside, in bath, in barns, etc.

I always buy equivalent to 100 watt.

Leds are nearly the same wattage for the lumins and always 10 times the price. I think it will be a while before I move over.

According to the two electrical suppliers I deal with CFLs and Halogen bulbs are to be fazed out in the next eight to ten years. I have used CFL since they came out and have not replaced very many but have had several go up in smoke when they went out. I have noticed that as they get older they don't give off as much light. As for using them outside they take way to long to come to full briteness in the winter. I didn't leave them in long and replaced them with LED and they come on instantly no matter how cold it is.
