2004 Impala

My son is looking at an 04 chevy Impala with 140 k miles on it. Does anyone know if these have any problems such as transmission or anything else we should look out for? Thanks in advance.

What motor is in it? If it has a 3800 I'd buy it in a heart beat. Great cars as far as I'm concerned. My daily driver is a 06 Monte Carlo. Basically the same driveline as the Impala. I rolled over 268,000 this past week. No problems with the car. Strong transmission and even stronger motor.

Check vin number on car I think it is going to be in that group that is being recalled for the bad air bags.

My wife has an '03 with the 3.8 engine and about 120K miles. It has been the most trouble-free car we have ever owned. The ONLY problem it's given us is front wheel bearings - had to replace both at around 90,000.

The car is also extremely easy on gas. I just returned from an 800 mile road trip - it averaged better than 33 mpg.

We just got rid of an 08 because the head gaskets started leaking with 160 k -- but a brand new SUV

We have an 04 with the 3.8 So far it's been great. Some tranny's though, ours included, have a pressure switch issue inside. If you take off from a stop light too fast, it will "kick" a little. (Flat spot) The way my wife drives though, it's not an issue. Been like that since we got it, and it's never got any worse.

The only "GM" vehicle involved in the air bag recall is the Pontiac Vibe, which was a Toyota product.

That body style Impala makes a great dependable car. Easy on fuel. I recommend them as first cars because they are not overly fast and handle accidents well. I have customers with north of 200K on the dial.
