OT I fixed the Impala

After going to 4 cemetarys today to put out flowers, we got home and the wife started mowing yard and I tore into the dash of the car. I finally figured out how to get the glove box apart, turned on the key and the outside air door started tapping. Called Napa and they had a new one for $30.19, so I went over and got it, came home and finally got the old one out and the new one in. Wife is HAPPY!!! Thanks for the info. Chris

This sounds like the problem I'm having with my 06 Monte Carlo. When I switch over from outside air to circulate air it clicks forever. It's the damper that switches between the two. What exactly did you replace and how far into the dash did you tear into?

I just had to take the glove box apart to have enough room to get my hand in there. Hardest part was getting twisted around to reach the little motor/gearbox. There are supposed to be 2 of these in there, one for outside air and one for heat or air. I couldn't even see the one for heat or air.

Impala? I had a '68 notched top with a 396 and M22 from the factory way back when. The 396 came out and a number of 427s went back and forth. A few years ago I saw a '68 Caprice for sale out of Ft. Worth, but its 427 was factory with the extra Caprice trim, otherwise the same identical black over maroon with a black interior for $11,000 and like a dummy, didn't go down there and buy it. We didn't have cable TV back then. We had something much better. Huge back seats for parking down at the lake. Quite a car with a lot of fond memories.

Well, you and the wife enjoy your Impala, and make the best of this Memorial Day weekend. Maybe take an evening ride down by the lake.

That must be a common problem. My 07 Impala needed one last year. I had to buy a 1/4" drive ratchet and cut the handle down to about 2 inches in order to reach and turn the screws. It does take a little contortion to get in there with big hands. I looked it up on youtube and there's really nothing to it but to do it. TDF
