Around here, they claim wheat has nine lives but must die 6 times, before it'll ever amount to anything! Wheat here in SE NE hasn't suffered any yet, so our crop may be small! chance of frost on thursday morning, if that happens, it will be toast!

The snow may be insulation enough to keep the wheat from freezing. We had snow that covered wheat that was 5-6 inches tall in ND - but it raised a really good crop of wheat afterwards.

Allen -- where are you located that you got all that snow? I have a friend going out towards Ogalala to do some fishing --He is leaving fri. morn -- hope it warms some for Him-- got up to 52 here in northwest Iowa today -- not your ideal fishing weather -- Your wheat needs some warmer wheather to!

I'll bet the hospitals will be busy nine months from now. I think that is one of the reasons Mom's family left the farm moved to California in the 30's, because of that kind of weather, plus they couldn't afford gas for the tractor. Just stay warm. Stan

Looks like you will find out this year. Hope it does well for you so we can see some nice pictures of stubble being plowed under this fall.

Send some cooler weather down here. It's been "hotter than a two dollar pistol", as old George Jones had in one of his songs.
90F and high humidity.

As you already know. Snow cover is better if it is below freezing, and better if the wind is blowing. Of course like we both know in the Nebr panhandle you won't know until it is over. LOL. Good luck.

Probably shouldn't hurt it any. I would assume the ground was somewhat warm before the storm, and the wheat should just insulate it even better. And it will like the moisture, I would assume in less you are as wet as you were up there last spring and summer.

We were trying to build grain elevators in Chadron and by Gordon, and I've never heard of the rain and snow you got until last year. I was told the norm was 14" a year. Seems like there was more than that by the end of April. Bob
