Just in for lunch, took a quick picture of the 1550,1850 and the Allis planter getting corn in.

Since Allis was the no-till pioneer, is you planter set up with any no-till goodies? I've oft wondered about the kind of job those planters did no-tilling.

That's about as nice of set up as anyone could ask for. How many acres of corn you plant? Marker looks short. Do you straddle the mark or like some guys, run a front wheel in the mark?

rrlund,

I've never owned an Oliver tractor, but I used to work for a guy who had an 1800 and a 1955. I always thought that era and series of tractors was the best looking tractors ever made.

You have nice equipment. Thanks for the picture.

I didn't get any pictures this year but 1 field we planted with our Massey 285 on the 495A planter, and the other had a bunch of rocks in it so I left the loader on the 1600 and planted with that one. When I saw a bunch of rocks I threw them in the bucket. We've been done for about a week & a half already, now on to the baler and getting ready for 1st crop.

Some guys cut yesterday already, but that's way too early in my mind. It was only a little over a foot tall. I'm hoping to get a start in about 2 weeks.

Ya,this one's a no-til special. I have the no til coulters up on it though. I'm planting in ground that was chisel plowed and the coulters throw too much trash back in to the depth wheels on the seed openers when it's loose like that. It does a respectable job in no til for its age.

I plant about 80 acres. I pick half and chop the other half for silage. I finished the picking corn Saturday, planting silage corn now. Should be done by mid day Friday. There's 23 acres that I have to run over with the disc in the morning first.
I straddle the mark. It's a four row set for 30 inch rows. The frame is awful wide on that animal so the markers have to be set in a long ways.

Do you have a manual for it? Mine was put together just like yours, but in the manual it is pictured put together different!

Ya,I've got all the manuals for the planter frame and air units. What do you need to know?

Nothing! I just mentioned mine was put together different than what it shows in the manual, and I see yours is also. All of them that I have seen are this way and I am not sure why! I sold mine in 2013. That is all.

We started no-tilling with a 333 8-20s behind a 1066 in the late 70s/early 80s. I think that thing would get a good stand in a blacktop road. I remember the coulters flashing in the sun, running in that bright gold wheat stubble. Man, we had it made! No more plowing wheat stubble for beans. Then we got a Lilliston no-til drill, and alternated between it and the 333.
