Anybody know what the approximate refrigerant charge level the A/C needs? I do auto repair, but one of my best customers just bought this for his business and wants me to charge the A/C. I think there is probably a leak, but want to get some dye in the system and let him run it for awhile. Thanks.

I hate it when people put dye in these systems, in my experience many more issues caused by the dye than help in finding leaks, I use a Freon sniffer, just my two cents

I only use 1/4 oz of dye. Some people think more is better. I have never had luck with a Freon sniffer. When I think I find the leak, I would hold it out in open shop air and get the same alarm. It was not a cheap one either. Changed the sensor tip with the same result. Have not used one much in at least 10 years.

Remove the front grill and check for corrosion of the condenser and connecting line, the receiver drier is also there, The frontal area is somewhat susceptible to damage from impact but even more vulnerable to accumulations of corrosives such as calcium chloride. Have replaced several and connecting lines also. Pretty much the same results with a sniffer from Snap On.

Found it. Put in dye and charged based on pressure, found a bent condenser tube. Looks like a stick went through the condenser. Don't know why it pasted the vacuum test on my machine.

mine is a Snap On tool mEl, maybe I am just lucky as I have good luck using mine,,, sorry I have seen people put a can or two of dye in them and plugs up things,, I even bought the special light to see the dye but have never used it,,,, dang thing was spendy too lol

I have used dye for leak checking for years. Never had any problem with things plugging up. You really don't need a lot to find a leak. BUT.....many dyes are contained in cans of stop-leak for A/C systems. That will plug things up! Maybe your experience involved do-it-yourselfers adding a can of aftermarket refrigerant that had stop-leak and dye in it. Given the miniscule amount of dye that would normally be used, I cannot see how it could plug up anything.

I am betting you are right as they did say it was in a can with refrigerant
thanks for the info,,, maybe some day I will use that high dollar light after all lol
