Fingers numb ..makes work difficult

I have the numbness in the fingers on my right hand. Makes work difficult,
Hard to use tools, pick up small items, start nuts, button shirts.

I have had shots but with only mild success. Sleep with a brace.

Has anyone had the carpal tunnel surgery?

Did it work, and how long did it last?

Would you recommend it?

A lady in our church had surgery about two months ago and is back to playing piano for services. She plays quite loudly so you know that she is really hitting the keys.

Had it done last year in Houston, on both hands at once. Button hole surgery four 1 inch incisions. Amazing thing was I had no pain after sugery. Best thing I could have done.I was like you both hands were numb. No gripping strenth in either . About a month to six week recovery. Before surgery was scheduled (1month ) Doctor recodmended me to go walmart or pharmacy and get a pair if wrist braces for corparal tunnell and wear them at all times. He told me it would reduce the pian and numbness wich it did. E-mail me with any additional questions (Oh by the way Yes I could wipe.) LOL

Highly recommend it.
Knew quite a few of my fellow retired factory workers that had the surgery.
Honestly, quite a few of the women were at the point of stepping off a high bridge before it.
they lead normal pain free lives now.

ps if you haven't already, make sure that is where the problem really is. I have problems with numb useless hands often, but the problem is in my neck....not forearms.
good luck

Had it done in my left hand about 30 years ago. Simple one inch incision in the palm of my hand. Went into the hospital early in the morning, they did the operation about 9am, went home after lunch, and went back to work the next day. Hand was perfectly normal after a month or so.

I had feeling coming back into my fingers as soon as the operation was done. As simple as it was, I can't imagine anyone shying away from it.

I've never had a problem with my right hand. I'd always heard that if you had the problem in one hand, it was just a matter of time till you had it in the other hand. I also heard an injury or trauma would bring it on, besides repetitive motion. I got to thinking back to a time when I dumped a motorcycle in Japan and landed hard on the palm of my left hand on a blacktop road. My doctor told me that could have been enough to trigger it.

Had it done this past Monday, so far no problems and no pain from the procedure. Indian doc did the surgery the traditional way, have four stitches and about a 1.5 inch incision.

I had both done about 20 years ago. You lose a little grip strength but not noticeable after a while. If you just started having numbness recently physical therapy may help.

showcrop, I think you should step up to the plate (passing plate) and buy a organ for the church. I really like to hear an organ in a church as opposed to a piano. You can probably make it a deduction on next years taxes some how.

try chiropracter 1st ,,.30 yrs ago I had it bad ,, even got a knot on my elbow ??? after 5 weex , and working over my neck too ,, all got better,, never came bak ...

Had surgery on right hand a year ago last Dec., waited too long, still have numbness. Going to see surgeon this Thurs. to schedule carpal tunnel surgery on left hand. Don't wait too long!

I don't know your age but if over 40 get in and complain of neck problems so ins will pay for an MRI of your cervicle spine. (1st 7 vert. in neck). I had same complaint as you and also had torn rotator cuff on same arm so they did the carpo thing while I was under for other. Wasn't the problem! Within a year, both hands/arms going numb and severe exhaustion and left leg jerking. MRI at neurologist showed 3 vert. rubbing together,no disc left and bone spurs growing into my spinal cord. Set me up for emergency surgery. (3hr) Called severe spinal stenosis (google it) Nerves comming out between vert. were pinched and spurs were poking other nerves in cord. Now have spacers(fuses) and titanium plate on front holding three vert apart. Was just on verge of loosing continence (some do and never get it back after surgery). It was misdiagnosed for 1 year and I lost a lot of function permanently because of it. DON'T play around with numbness!!! They love calling it "carpo"...quick money. Get that MRI , they don't lie. If that isn't it , then go the carpo way but get the cervicle spine checked first. One lady I talked to was only 46 and because of that, let hers go too long out of denial. She's wearing a diaper for the rest of her life. I was close. (e-mail is open if you have questions)

Went to my Doctor for the same symptoms, he ordered x-rays cause I also stated my neck sometimes pops/grinds and hurts. The x-rays confirmed that I have degenerated discs C4-C6.

Basically he told me I do have carpal tunnel syndrome and will probably need surgery but the neck deal is priority. I did an MRI and am waiting on an appt with a Neurosurgen. I will also have to go through some of this for lower back problems too. Good Luck!

I know what you are saying, but our church, myself included wouldn't go for that. Even though we sing usually four hymns or praise songs, and often have members who perform special music, The service is not about entertainment or performance, it is all about God's Word.
