OT- Shaky QUAKY here

Many of you will hear on the news. At 12:23pm, we experienced a 4.0 earthquake here in southern MI. Report is that is was centered south of Galesburg, Mi. Well so am I. My old house sits on a mortar/stone foundation ! (with crscks) The rumbling boom puzzled me, but the shaking felt like a quake and the rattling of cupboards gave me a start. Thought my house was collapseing. However, My first thought was of the underground pipeline a few miles from me.

I was over at my grandparents house in Ithaca, my mom said her chair just moved. I didn't think anything of it, but since we were outside, I did here the garage door rattle. I was sitting on concrete steps, so I didn't feel a thing. First time in my life the gound has shook were it could be felt.

Yep,I felt it too. They said it was the biggest quake to hit Michigan since 1947. I was eating dinner and watching Lassie. I thought the dog was scratching himself right beside my chair but he was just laying there. Then it seemed more like a helicopter right over the house without all the noise.
I was out with a load of manure when the 1 o'clock news came on and said there was a quake about 40 minutes earlier.

Yes rr, and I remember that one in 1947 too ! We sure didn't see it confirmed on the news in less then an hour back then ! My Dad was calling neighbors to see if was 'just our house'. ( I was just 6)

This was the first one I ever felt. There was one back about 94 or so if I remember right, but I was out on the tractor or something when that one hit. I was sitting in a wooden kitchen chair on a hardwood floor this time. That seemed to amplify it.

My wife just ask me if I felt it today. I spent the day on the tractor. I was already shaking and rocking so never notice it. She said it was supposedly centered in the Saginaw Midland ahead. About 50-60 miles north west of me.

I didn't feel the earthquake because I was on a skid steer. However one of the TransCanada guys working at the farm in the field office felt it. He said it only lasted a few seconds, but his water bottle on the table vibrated across it. He ran outside from the office because he thought the natural gas pipeline they had just repaired a few days ago had issue....

Felt it over by Ashley. Really rocked the house hard but just for a few seconds. I wouldn't want to have bigger ones I know that. Pretty cool to feel an actual earthquake though.

I was in the shop all day prepping a tractor for paint.
Never even knew about it until the daughter in law called
to "make sure we survived the earthquake". Might have
felt it if I were in the house I guess, but not in the shop.
Any way, one more half painted tractor in Ionia county! LOL
I'll flip the parts and paint the other side tomorrow.

I heard about that one on the news. According to the earthquake center, we have had 8 in the last week and over 200 in the last year. Most were 3.0 or less. I live near the New Madrid fault. The largest that I remember was a 5.0 in the mid 70's. We were having shakes long before fracking and glowbull warming. We always just thought it was just natures way.

(quoted from post at 14:37:37 05/02/15) Well if there is none of that terrible fracking going on it can only be caused by Global Climate Change.

Or from lack of sufficient tax revenues to provide proper maintenance of government funded infrastructure

We had evidence of the quake over here on the sunset coast- I'm working nights this cycle, so I slept through it. The power plant in South Haven declared an Unusual Event when their seismic monitoring system picked the tremor up.
