New to the forum and already learning a lot. Just rescued a David Bradley running gear with Ficklin 185 gravity box behind a neighbors shed for $50. Overall in decent shape but one flat. Three tires with air are 8.5L-15 wagon tires. Flat is a truck tire. I'd like to get it back to 4 wagon tires. Looks like the closest sizes still made are 7.60-15 or 9.5L-15. Anyone with David Bradley running gear know which fits the original wheels best? Thanks for the help.

The heaviest gears made under the David Bradley name were a 6 ton gear. and most were 4 ton gears and a good 4 ton is $400 without bed. I know knothing about the Ficklin beds but guessing from model number that bed will way overload the gear. And factory tires were either 6:70 x 15" or 7:60 x 15" in 4 ply rated.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep the loads light than that. Hoping to use it down rows of apple trees to drop wood chips. I don't think they will "flow" but if a 2nd person can pull them out the chute with a hoe/rake, it will save me a bunch of time. I'll get a tire ordered now that I know true size for the wheels.

Wow, I've never heard of an 8.5L - 15 till now....

I've got 2 David Bradley gears they have
tires from 13 to 16 on them . The original
owner told me that as tire changes came out
he bought different rims so he could but
different car tires on. When I looked at
one he had 16 13 14 and 15 all on one gear
I can't remember how many gears he had but
originally the weren't mixed up

That is how I found this forum. Typed in 8.5L 15 and another guy had been looking for them. That size must have been out of production for awhile.

I have had 14", 15" and 16" with that bolt pattern but never heard of a 13" being made to fit, could it have been a modified wheel?

Millcreek makes side discharge mulch spreaders (row spreaders) specifically for nursery/tree stock applications.

If you poke around their website you might get a few ideas maybe to modify your setup.

I checked out the MillCreek website. That is a nice piece of equipment. Thanks!
