Ignition spark

Trying to fire up my 1952 Super C Farmall, black tire, red tractor, 4 cylinder, with a starter, generator, regulator, coil and magneto and no battery. Should I be able to hand crank the engine, and fire this beast up. I have no spark at all. I have new points, plugs and wires. Rebuilt generator, and starter which is not installed at this time. Why am I not able to fire this machine up. Any idea will help me. I know this sounds so simple and dumb, but someone will ask, is the battery hot, is it timed properly, what is the gap on the points....set at 13 etc. Just trying to avoid that issue. Thanks

Weren't the Super "C"'s battery ignition? If so the distributor will not produce a spark with out a battery in the circuit. It might run after the battery was removed, but the generator life may be shortened.

After looking in my book, I don't have a magneto....me bad. So now I'm really lost. Thanks for the insight. Perhaps I'm not a tractor man.....trying to be.

I believe you are right. I have a few things to learn. Thanks. I'll put the starter on, hook up the battery and see what happens. Appreciate that info. Me bad...you're right.

Point gap needs to be 0.020 for one thing. So lets start at easy and go to harder. Spark at the coil wire as in center wire from the distributor cap has to be a good blue/white and jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Next pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good stead flow of gas for 3 minutes. Catch the gas to make sure you do not have water/dirt/rust in it

Don't tell anybody.....I have a new lined tank with new shell gas....already took care of that problem.

Mag is 0.013 and distributor is 0.020 and if it has a distributor and you set it at 0.013 you will be lucky if it starts or even tries

Should I be able to hand crank the engine, and fire this beast up, not without a battery you won't. My farmall C has a mag and you could hand crank it, no battery. I even use a 12v mower battery. Mine is converted to 12v too.

Ah that infamous IHC kill button !!!!! LOL. I think they work backwards or something ??
I had one on a JD LA Can't tell you how many times that thing got me ! I'd crank and crank and then finally remember to turn it on. LOL I finally took it off and put the spring steel push type right on the mag !
