The ground finally dryed up and warmed up enough to get started here in Central Ohio, we are about 3 weeks behind normal..

Sw wi renter did the corn yesterday watched that planter do 40 acres in no time flat remember plowing with 2 x 14 that was a lot slower . Most guys are all going there's always a few late ones I got a strip of hay grazed off that will be seeded later.

We haven't planted oats for a long time, it doesn't do very well here , seems to take a cooler spring to get a good test weight, when we did plant some we would do our best to get it in as early as possible to give it half a chance of doing well. Oats seems to do much better to the North more..

Ya,they tend to like cool and damp to get a good yield. I use them mostly as a cover crop to establish alfalfa. I combine them and feed them to the cattle and bale the straw.

There's a little bit of corn in here. The guy that I get my fertilizer and chemicals from works some sandier ground than I do. He has a fair whack in,but he'd plant corn with frost in the ground if he could. I haven't seen much other ground even worked though. I don't care to plant much before Mothers Day. The ground doesn't warm up all that well before that around here.

You guys up north have a much smaller window to make things happen..makes things tougher I'm sure..

In years past have hauled many oats out of Michygan to the race horse people round Lexton, Kantucky.
They like the heavy weight oats that come out of your state.

Got my oats in the ground the first week of April. When a kid at home dad always wanted to start planting the middle of February. Grain buyers around here want the northern oats because they weigh more.
