Plowing with the 1955 Cummins

Back when I got old enough to help we had a Farmall 706 with 4-16's semimounted. I remember the field that was a little over a hundred acres across the road from the house. I think it took about a half hour to make a round when we started the field. At that time we were farming 400 acres and plowed about 250 of that. I couldn't believe how that plow made the tractor grunt. When disking or any other job, it would run at full rpm in the gear we put it in. With the plow however, it ran 300 to 400 rpm below full speed, which was just a little above peak torque.

The Cummins has plenty of snot. I plowed in 5th under all the time at about 1600 RPM. Just over 4 mph. I need cover boards to go much faster than that and still turn the cover crop under. I think a picture is going to upload. We will see.
