My project for today

I had a day of mowing planned. But the rain changed that real fast. My JD 401 industrial never had a dust separator on the air cleaner. This was a good time for that project. The air cleaner only had a 3 inch tube coming off of the top of the air cleaner inlet. It was pulling air and dust in, right in front of the radiator screens I was getting a lot of dust in my paper element real fast. Hardest part was locating the hole in the hood to match the inlet to the air cleaner. I bought a new air filter with a 3 inch opening from ebay, and a piece of 3 inch exhaust pipe from Pep boys. everything went together real good. even lined the hole with a piece of rubber. Don't know why JD didn't add this. I guess the factory figured a industrial tractor didn't need one. Stan

I will vouch for the effectiveness of the precleaner. My Ford 8240 had none, and a few weeks after a three day dusty tilling job, a friend used it one day and commented about lack of power. Checking the filter I found it pretty well plugged with dust. My 9000 catches dust in the pre-cleaner, while the filter stays pretty much clean.

A few scattered showers around the state but we didn't get enough to wet the sidewalk. Monsoons will start in about 2.5 months, maybe we'll get some rain then.

I added one to my New Holland this winter and have dumped it a couple times already. It catches a lot of dirt.

My old Farmall C has a pint Ball Jar and an oil bath. How does the old school filters compair to today's paper? Jubilee just has an oil bath.

Today's filters are rated to be considerably better in filtration with significantly better air flow. probably the biggest benefit to the new ones is service. Yours probably has a sticker on it telling you to clean it daily. Do you? With too many too long service intervals a lot of dirt gets trapped up in the housing well above the oil and in many cases never gets cleaned. This will of course cause restriction and poor filtering, and ultimately reduced engine life.
