Double acting to single acting hydraulic cylinders

I have a 464 IH tractor with 2 sets of factory hydraulic remotes . One set is for double acting and one set is for single acting. From what I can find out I can't change the single acting to double. Thinking about putting a loader on it and my loader has double acting cylinders. Now is there a way to change my double acting cylinders to single.

Only connect the up direction and plug the other outlet. When you pull the lever to the down position the pressure is directed to the plugged port which the pressure relief valve will bleed off, while the working (up) port vents through the outlet of the OC valve and lets your cylinder retract (collapse). I've never done it but that's what I'd do.

You better trace that single remote because that may be "T" from one of the other two remote lines. I'm not sure IH 464 has dual remotes. I've only seen them with single remotes meaning one was supply while the other was return depending on which way the lever was moved. I'm not sure what Texasmark is trying to say.

When you dead head a plugged line or hose they can rupture but usually always leak. I wouldn't do that.

It has dual remotes . One valve only has one hose and the other has 2 hoses. 2 handles . I have seen breather plugs do you think they would work or do they just leak.

Most double acting cylinders can be converted to single acting by simply plugging the unused port with a vent type plug. The vent is necessary to vent out the air in the unused side of the cylinder. Solid plugs will force the air in the unused end of the cylinder to be compressed on every stroke which will slightly diminish capacity.

I THINK you are all wrong from my memory. That tractor came with one double acting valve and you could add another. NOW someone may have been cheap and only plumbed half of the valve using it on a single acting cylinder but if you go back to the valve there will be a port plugged where your other hose goes. Now also check of the two valves there ONLY one has float detent the other is up down/ in out lad checked . You want the boom lift plumbed to the float detent valve and bucket to the other.

I have a 464 Industrial and have been thinking about putting a loader on it since it has
the shuttle shift. This tractor had a loader on it at sometime in the past and underneath the tractor it has a looped hydraulic hose and I was thinking that maybe this was the port for a separate loader valve.Anyone know about that?

why not feed another double acting valve and tie the lever back on the tractor. and dump into the fill plug from the double acting (loader control) valve. buy a double and then you would still have your remote for the rear.

Ditto what Paul stated cyl orifice that hose is removed from will need a "vented plug" I also agree with jm that I think hyd valve could be changed to double acting. A photo of the valve in question would help.

Why wouldn't the pressure relief valve in the control function to prevent catastrophic problems? NPT fittings can be sealed to hold.....Red Locktite works for me.

Come back.

not the same, but similar situation, when
I wanted to disable the downpressure on
one of my Fasthitch tractors.

Added some fittings to the down side of the cylinder
to point it at the ground, and used a vent(so rain wouldn't get in)
works fine.
The unhooked 'down' hose, I routed back to the reservoir.
Installed a T where the drain plug is,
and just let the fluid dump there when I pull the down lever.
I don't like plugging valves and letting it dump thru the relief.
makes too much heat.

go with all double acting. The oil level doesn't drop in the reservoir. Why tie up the scv's with the loader. Install a joystick and leave the scv's avaliable .
