Dogwood winter is here!

After the Dogwoods start blooming we get a cold spell...frost and/or freezing temps. Around here we call it "Dogwood winter".

After Dogwood winter, a few weeks later we get Blackberry winter when the black-berries start to bloom. Frost and/or freezing temps again.

What do y'all call it?

Here in northern NY, we still call this "winter". Granting we've had a couple weeks of decent weather, but I've seen a foot of snow in late April too many times to think we're out of the woods yet. Scheduled for 37 tonight, and then freezing or below every night the rest of the week, so it wouldn't take much at all to turn some of the rain we've been getting into snow.

Back in the late 70's I was attending SUNY Delhi, we had 8" of wet snow May 9th, leaves were already starting on the trees. Then I went north to Clarkson U.

Yep. Hit here today! 37 degrees at 7 am EDT in WNC. What's left of the native dogwoods are in full bloom.

Spent 4 years there myself--'91 BSME. As a general thing, it was colder but got a bit less snow than home. Around '93 we got 18" on the 20th of April--I took reverse out of my car trying to get it out to go to work. Couldn't afford to fix it at the time, so I drove it until August with no reverse, then got it fixed. Never had to back up once, and drove it all over the place. Only came close once--went to a dance at a local watering hole--parked well down the road so no one would park ahead of me and require me to back up. Ended up having enough of a crowd that when I wanted to leave the cars were parked not only in front but also in back of me. Had to go back in until the crowd thinned out--bummer!

Class of 81 ECE. I remember the winter of 93 lots of snow, I was keeping a log book at that time and it snowed all the time almost every day. We had a blizzard the end of March. That was after the volcanic eruption (Pinatubo) and ash caused global cooling.
