Working the fields.

Beautiful day here today. Chisel plowed a few fields for some neighbors, tilled a few and did some of my own. It's nice to have a tractor for each implement...very little time spent switching implements around here! This is one of my 6 Allis 175 diesels. I have another with a 5' rotovator, another with a loader and blade, another with a 13' tandem disc, one with an 8' Bushhog mower and another with an 8' finish disc.

If ya tried that here the only thing you would get in the ground would be the tractor about axle deep. Until the water in the low spots in the field drives are all gone ya don't even think about putting a tractor in the field .

Well you sure don't sound like your complaining so you must be bragging(LOL). Its ok but we are jealous now.
Looks good and have fun.

Eldon,

Great pictures! I think I've read that you're in eastern WA. How big is that level area? I'm assuming you're in a valley? Got a cousin in Spokane, but haven't spent much time there.

Looks like you did a good job.

Agree that it is nice to have a tractor for each implement.

Sure is beautiful countryside.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

Yes, I live about a mile from Idaho and a mile north of Interstate 90 (20 miles east of Spokane). In the pics with the mountain in the background, the Spokane river and I-90 are just out of sight. This is a big valley, but most of it is broken up into small 5-10 acre parcels. We are lucky because we have an aquifer running 60-90 feet under us, so irrigation water is cheap. My equipment needs to be small enough to haul around as I also service customers in a 40 mile radius of my farm.

(quoted from post at 06:43:29 04/21/15) Great photos. I can smell the dirt. Tks for posting.

It's strange, but the dirt out here doesn't have much of a smell to it....not like the South Dakota clay that I plowed as a kid....kinda miss that part.

Look like 15,5x38.Neighbor/buddy(when I was in High school) had a 185'Crop Hustler' that had that size.Bought that tractor new,had the option of 15.5x38 and 16.9x34,and Ithink another size, but I dont remember....

BTW,Charles claimed that his 185 would outpull their 4020 on the 2 row(717NH)forage harvestor. But the 4020 would easily out pull the Allis plowing/disking.... Never acctually saw it happen.....Charles said that it was his favorite tractor.

(quoted from post at 08:57:34 04/21/15) What size rear tires are those? Were they factory? Great Pictures by the way. Paul

15.5 x 38...was a factory option on the hi-clearance models. It makes this one point downhill a little because I don't have the tall front spindles. 16.9 or 18.4 x 28 was the standard. If Allis had made the 38's standard they would have sold a lot more tractors IMHO. I have a 175D with 18.4 x 30's which is nice. I think the 30's were just an option on the 185's. I also have one with 18.4 x 34's...not a factory option, but I got a good deal on the tires and rims and the tractor already had tall front spindles.

4020 competed with the 190XT, and it's little turboed 301 put out more horses on less fuel than the Deere's 404. The 185 had the non-turbo 301 and was a lot lighter tractor. 34" rears were not an option on the 185, but were standard on the 190.

My 190XT with 38" radials next to my 4020 LP. The 190XT's could be turned up to around 120 hp, but were rated at 93. This one walks all over the 4020, so I think someone turned the screw a little.

Hehehe, come up to my house Eldon! Our dirt has a smell to it.... Especially after you trip over your own size 16 boot and face plant in it! :)

Thanks for the reply. As a teenager I dreamed of seeing the Palouse during wheat harvest. Never saw it 'til 2002 and the harvest was over. Maybe someday.

Yes the view is spectacular from Steptoe Butte when the winter wheat has turned gold and the spring wheat is green and the fallow fields are brown/black. I'm sure their are some cool pics on the net.
