Nope not a farm tractor. I am the second owner, original owner is still alive in his nineties and still drives to the diner everyday. He had a bunch of old trucks and machinery this is the first I've been able to get after many tries (most went for scrap despite my efforts, some running). I just have to save it, don't know if I will keep it. Not positive of year and model yet, have to get it home first. Insurance card in the glove box from 1976-77, looks like the last one.

I have been a GMC fan for years.
Is it a gas or diesel?
If its a gas, it probably has the 503 cid in line 6 engine and a 5 speed trans. with two speed axel, or a 8 speed Road Ranger transmission, or some other combo.
If its a diesel it could be a 218 horse power Detroit Diesel.
In the circle of GMC truck enthusiast, it is called a 'fat cab'.
If it wuz closer to me I would like to own it and fix to road worthiness and take to antique shows.

Can't tell you how nice it is to see an old Bull Cab again. I pulled a dump trailer with an old 650 with a 4 banger diesel in it. We thought it was big because we were young and that thing made a lot of noise but had no power. Well what could you expect from a 471 Detroit ?? I think the 630 Bull Cab was about the same thing only with a gas engine. I would love to have it to restore but I am way to old now . But that picture sure brought back memories of the 50's.

That is when trucks were trucks and men were men. No crumple zones on that baby...all metal. You hit something with that and the truck survives. You rattle around the cab like a marble in a tin can! Pretty red GM. I always like old truck shows.

sms,

Very nice!! If you fix it up...you know you have to keep it. :)

Would sure make a nice pair along with your red/black one. Make sure to post pics along the journey.

Does that trailer have air, vacuum or juice brakes? I don't see vavuum or air cans. I had a trailer that looked just like that, pulled it behind a 1953 GMC cabover truck with vacuum brakes. It had the 503 and a 5&3....James

I had a 630 that looked like that, it was a '49, but had Budd wheels, 4-71 detroit and a 5&3. Also had a 450 with the 503 and 5&3. It didn't have the butterfly hoods. It had a log bunk and a tandem axle log trailer. I also had a 950 with a 6-71 detroit and a 9 speed, hauled grain doubles with it. It was too slow for freeway hauling. Factory it was a tandem truck with a 5&3, I shortened the frame and put a faster single rear axle and the 9 speed in it. My favorites are the '47 to '53 GM trucks. I have had a '52 Chevy pickup since I was 14, 44 years now. Just sold a '48 4100 Chevy, it had the original 216, 4 speed and a little 3 speed brownie, no 2 speed. It hauled cattle for a registered Hereford herd from Central Oregon to the Portland Stock Yards until 1998....James

Yeah, I have seen those videos before. Worked one place back in the 70's that had a truck that would runaway if you left it idling to warm up and build air pressure, when it took off everyone would run to shut it down.

If someone wants it I would try to get it for them. Probably pretty rusty as it sits so low to the ground.

It has air brakes and a wet line and was used to pull a dump trailer. There was highway permit in the glovebox for a 1936 Rogers trailer issued 1/27/76.

I think it is rough, I don't really like them so didn't look too close. This is NY if you want I could find out if your in the area.

If I found an old lowboy I might have to keep it to haul things to shows. Lets see if it can be rejuvenated first.

I should've had that when I was discharged from the Army at Fort Bragg in 1955 to pull our mobile home to MD. It was a load for a 1949 Dodge. Hal

has both air and vacuum brakes. Weirdest set up I ever seen. I never pulled it on road , just used around farm for water tender years ago. I have no idea what a juice brake is, would that be a strong drink taken just as one realized those brakes were not good and you were going to get hurt badly ?

I almost forgot it was 60 years today when I was discharged. Not many of my Army friends are still living. Hal
