Parmak SE3 Repair

36 Coupe, if you"re seeing this or if anyone can help, I have a Parmak SE3 fence charger that went dead after lightning hit nearby(Been working since 1998). I took it apart and found one side of the secondary of AC transformer was open. Called Parmak for a replacement but they said that the board is probably fried and to send the charger back. (I don"t want a solid state anything since I"m always replacing them every time we get close lightning strikes-even with protectors on the inputs and outputs.)

36 Coupe, I read on your posts that you replace the transformers on a regular basis. Do the boards really go out like he said or am I getting worked? Do you sell the transformers and boards?

Thanks,

My SE2 just got a lightning strike that blew out a fuse holder and opened the primary of the input transformer.I find no problems on the board it self. You are stuck with solid state chargers now.Transformers and boards run 25 to29 bucks each.I have a spare charger on my fence now, busy fixing customer chargers. The SE1 2 and 3 are the best chargers ever made.I repair mine when it needs it, just a cost of keeping cattle home.Your SE2 input trans former has a tapped secondary, disconnect the leads when checking voltage.Red lead to ground, green lead supplies 20 volts to timing circuit.Black lead runs about 300 volts.Depends on model.Parmak does not supply individual board parts. There are 4 common failure parts on the board.BEWARE of the large oil filled capacitor, it can hold a charge of 400 volts even when the charger is unplugged.Factory will not service your board, they will replace it.I dont reccommend self service unless you have many years in electronics service.

Thanks for the advice 36 Coupe. Didn't realize the black lead on the tranny was 300V. It is definately open. Was in the electronics world prior to retiring. Looks like sending it back to Parker-McCrory is my option as I don't wan't to replace it with a solid state one. Probably will get a smaller ss version as a back-up until the SE3 is fixed. Been lucky this week as the horses haven't tried the fences yet.

Would like to commend you and all the good folks who help other people with their farm problems. Hope that I can be of assistance to anyone like you have.

Your SE3 is a far better charger than the new models being sold now.I keep a spare charger because it takes 10 days to get a parts order.

i have a parmak s.e.3 the input transformer is open also can not read the part number on it do u sell new one i need on pretty quick. by what i read of your post it is a step up of 2.5 with a tape for the logic circuit of 20v all the list on their website is fuses and fuse holders i can get them at work
