trouble finding correct year

I have a McCormick Farmall Super M S#- 13928 J anybody know what year this is. Battery, gas, 6 cylinder narrow front.

If it has a '6' ,it's NOT a SM. or someone has done a 'repower'.That would make it a 'Frankentractor'. Go look again......

SMs didnt have 6cycls so just what do you have. The 6 cyl models didnt come out till 58 those were the 460 and 560 models.

Look to the left side of this 'page' under the Rescearch and Info section.There is a SN list that will tell you what you need to know. Then look up 'TractorData.com to learn more about your tractor.

13928 was built in 1940

Oh Oh, I missed the Super M part. Refer to the posts indicating the SM serial numbers.

Super M was not built for 12 years after your serial number. Not super M could be just plain M

Should be 1953 and is a 4 cylinder. Is it modified with a 6 cylinder engine??

My book shows M 1940 SN 7240 to 25371. Super M 1953 12516 to 501906. Not sure about the over lap of numbers.

Unless its a SMD its a 1952 built in August. Serial number breaks they have on this site and other places is incorrect for non diesels built at farmall works for change from 52 to 53. 21074 was the first farmall works non diesel SM built in Jan. 53.

The 5XXXXXX series serial numbers are for Super M tractors built at the Louisville plant.

No its not if 13928-J is the serial number. I bet you can't find a date code on the castings after august 1952 and probably not July unless a part was replaced sometime.

Hope you can make out this IH build month numbers. Top of page, 1953. Above the first red line with SM at left of page. Serial 21074 first built in Jan. Reason serial number lists have serial 12516 as the 1953 starting number is above the second red line. SMDV 12516 first built in Jan. IH had some kind of holdup on the diesel tractor builds the last part of 52 and first of 53. Serial 12516 didn't get a finish build until March. SMD serial 12919 was a carry over from 52. Then see how far the serial jumped in Feb. Like I said your tractor serial number was built in August 52 unless it has a diesel engine.
