I have one more guy coming tomorrow AM for his appointment. Likely I will get it done and out by evening. I have a couple on extension that I have to run to their homes Thursday and meet with them. Both terminal cancer patients unable to come to me. First thing Friday AM I am out looking at equipment and thinking about scratching up some ground for oats. Don't know how dry it is out there. Haven't been out on the place in two weeks.

Yep, finally decided to try computer software to file last year, and this year, and wish I'd done it years ago.

Got mine in a month or so ago. Now we get to watch the news. With the news crews standing at the post office drop box, which is staying open beyond closing time, for late filers, just so they can have their letters stamped, and not be late. I think they should close at the regular time my self. That is if you watch the news. Stan

Dave, do you do all yours returns by appointment or what? I have used the same small CPA for about 40 years. I get my paperwork together and drop it by and leave it. Couple of weeks later pick them up. Is it better to sit down with them and answer any questions ? I have pretty much the same stuff every year and if he misses something he will call and question it. Thanks , Tommy

We e-filed months ago and have the refunds (State and Federal) in hand already. Have used H&R Block software for years, makes it relatively painless. Unless you don't have the info, no excuse for late filing, the due date doesn't change.

Filed end of Jan. And don't trust H & R Block. When Dad died back in either 92 or 93 we had gone to H & R Block for years. Local lady in the attorney's office doing taxes helped with Dad And Moms taxes and what she found was so bad she had to go back several years, I guess as far as the law allowed and file amended returns to get things straightened out. She is still doing our taxes but in her own office. Several years filed on line but one year refund almost neve came, when did a check. What happened was one click of computor did not take to get check direct deposit. So be careful and make sure everything gets in.

Did my taxes in February. It gives me time to make adjustments and raise some money. I had to figure out how many steers I had to sell. Sent my checks in yesterday along with my small fine for not filing quarterly. Its not worth it to me for no more than the fine is. I'm not giving them anything until I absolutely have to.

The lousy state of Mi. charges you 25 bucks to file on line. I just sent them a pile of paperwork with my check and paid the two dollar postage.

I always pay mine before the 1st of March. I had an accountant tell me that I needed to do that or pay quarterly payments so that's what I have done for years.

We do it either way. Some folks been coming here for over 20 years and I don't really need to see them but those are the ones who come in to shoot the bull while I work. An awful lot of people just drop in. I have many out of state returns that come in the mail including one from Germany and one from France. After April 7 I almost insist on a sit down so I can make dead sure it is all there. I hate extensions and only filed six this year...two very ill people, two very lazy people that pay well so are worth the trouble, a wealthy doctor who never files until October...and my own. Don't have time to do my own taxes. :)

I have a healthy sideline fixing tax returns done with software. Also H&R and others. I know a lot of people like to do it that way but, around here anyway, H&R charges as much or more than I do and you don't get the credentials. In the long run it can pay to have a few professionals in your pocket to advise you thru the tough times in life. You don't get that from a computer.

I am a fan of Legal Zoom, though! ;)

Every year I do enough of mine in January to get my last quarterly payment close to right. Then I procrastinate until April, then it is maple sugar season and I don't have time, and I either rush it through at the last minute, or file an extension. This year was a last minute one, e-filed last night, and mailed my check to the state today.

My wife filled income tax as a sideline. She passed in 2012 now you can see why mine was always put on the back burner. My new tax gal is on the ball she has taught me how to have every thing in order at the end of each mo... I pay quarterly I know were I stand I don't have to ask anyone else...
