tire sizes-help!

We're talking tri-rib front tractor tires. Will a 5.50x15 tire fit on a rim that has a 7.50x15 on it now? The reason I ask is that the rim that has the 7.50 on it appears to be rather wide. The 7.50's are on the front end of my Ford 841 and they are too wide to put on with the dish to the inside. Plus the big tires make it hard to steer.

Rule of thumb on tires is if the rim is say in this case 5 inches wide a 6.00X16 will fit just fine. By the way it does not have the correct rims on it since they from the factory would have been 16 inch rims. So in other words the rim should be 1 inch narrower then the tire that is on it

Where would you find 5:50 x 15 try rib tires? All I have ever heard of were 4:00 or 5:00, no 5:50. What he needs is to get proper rims for that tractor and then the 7:50 in either a 15" or the 16" that should be on that tractor will stear OK.

I have a couple of old tractors with 5.50 front tires. My John Deere 40 and my 520. They were popular back in the 50's

A 520 should have been 16" not 15" and 15" 5:50 what I neverr heard of, had a lot of 5:50 16". The 40 not sure what size wheels they had 15" or 16" but I would think some had 16"

5:50 in a 16" is a popular size but 15" never heard of that in 15". Would have liked to have had a bigger tire than the 5:00 x 15 on the 46 B John Deere. When they brought out the pressed frame they went to the 16" wheel with the 5:50 x 16" tire.
