Regional Preferences

Hey guys being a Californian I got to wondering about the possibility of regional preferences in terms of brand when it comes to tractors. Was or is there a preference in the Northeast when it comes to JD's, IH, Ford, Massey Ferguson, Case, etc... How about the Sunbelt region? East Coast? I could be off but perhaps there could have been some overall preferences by region.

Back in my day a good dealer could put a lot of tractors in an area.
I have traveled all over the US and noticed different brands in different areas, and it was cause of strong dealer content.

Around here on the Mason-Dixon line, mostly everthing today is IH-JD-NH oriented. Mostly because there were dealers around. At one time, we had a lot of Case and some Oliver in the mix, along with Massey, Allis and Fords. Most everything now is JD and CIH, but the NH dealers are starting to make some headway. Kinda like Earthquake tractors in Callyfornya......

Dealers made a lot of difference but I also noticed a lot more Allis Chalmers and Olivers in Wisconsin than I ever saw in Michigan, suspect that was partially
because of AC being built in Milwaukee and Oliver's early adaption of live power making them a better tractor for forage and hay harvesting. Where I live in Iowa
I'v seen one Massey Ferguson in 2 years, where I lived in Wisconsin I had two dealers in 50 miles.

Down in the Arkansas where I grew up in the Southern Ozarks the most common were Ford and Massey with JD coming in a strong 3rd.

A bit south of there down in the Ark River bottom farming areas large Case and JD's were the norm.

Here in S. Calif. when Dad farmed. Most wheel tractors were IH, Crawlers which were used for ground preparation were A/C Then IH. Stan

It was all IH growing up. I never saw a green anything with the exception of planters and drills. I don't farm in the area
where I grew up. Around here green is king. The dealer is good. They almost make it worth paying the prices that you have
to for everything. I still own some older IH but do farming work with green. I have plans to upgrade my chore tractor next
year. I will go with a nice low hour older IH (966 probably). I can fix about everything on them and the Internet has made
dealers unnecessary where parts are concerned. With a chore tractor I can make do if I need to wait a couple days for a
part. I'm not getting rid of anything so I will have backups.

Where I grew up in the southern tier of ny,there was a good mix. JD may have had an edge but everyone was well represented. Saw very few MM's .Heavy on Massey Furgueson ,Oliver represented, some Case,AC and of course IH.

I live in the NEAR, SEMO area. I would guess that JD and Case/IH are pretty evenly split with NH coming in 3rd. Kubota has been making a big foot print lately. There are a few Massey and a couple of others but not enough to notice. As has been mentioned, a good dealer has more of an impact on choice of brand than the brand itself.

Here in NE Louisiana, back in the day, it used to be JD and IH with a scattering of other brands. It's still JD and Case/IH now, with JD running a slight lead. Starting to see a few blue New Hollands. Mostly because the NH dealer has a good lease program. Around here these days, if you don't farm 4000+ acres, you just ain't a farmer.
