Blackhawk tractor

I don't have my Cockshutt books handy, so this is from (sometimes faulty) memory.

Cockshutt was a Canadian company with a long history in farm equipment. From the late '40's to mid '50's, they shipped some tractors to the US which were sold through agricultural cooperatives, were painted orange, and were called Co-ops.

Cockshutt had models 20, 30, 40 and 50 in the early 1950's, and the Co-op 3, 4 and 5 were the same tractors as the Cockshutt 30, 40 and 50, respectively.

In 1956, they wanted a bigger presence in the US, and bought the Blackhawk Company, a US farm equipment manufacturer. So in 1956, the "deluxe" tractors they sent to the US were called Blackhawk tractors. The deluxe tractors were cream and red (vermillion, actually, but it sure looks red to me), rather than the solid red tractors made earlier. I think the Blackhawks came in models 20, 35 (new in 1956), 40 and 50, but not 30, which was still solid red. Not positive about the 30 not coming in Blackhawk nameplate. So if the serial number checks out to a 1956 model of anything but 30, it could have been a Blackhawk. I have a 1956 Model 35 that is awaiting restoration, and the jury's still out on whether it well be a Cockshutt or a Blackhawk. There are no factory records to link the name to serial numbers, so its kind of up to the individual, if there is no evidence of a name decal remaining.

35 was a 40 with a Hercules GO-198 engine. Still holds the record for lbs. pull/ weight of tractor ratio. It was built up until replaced by the 550 in (I think) 1958. Blackhawk name was a one year deal in 1956, so the later 35s would have been Cockshutts. IIRC.

Thanks for your help.

Is it still possible to restore a Blackhawk 20?

Is there a market for one as is???

I have a Blackhawk 20, with a hydraulically mounted
bucket & blade for sale. Where is best place to interest
possible buyers?

The best place to interest possible buyers is in a classified ad section. This is a discussion forum and classifieds are not supposed to be posted here, but this site does offer both conventional and photo classified ads. If the links to the classifieds are not visible in a menu down the left hand side of the page, click on the logo in the top left corner to take you to the home page.
