6 volt generator

Use a copper wire (solid is best) to jump the hot side of the battery (negative if original but the non-grounded side for sure) to the armature post on the generator. The most direct method is to jump power at the regulator Bat terminal to Arm (or GEN) terminal for one second. This makes a solid spark, and will charge the pole pieces in the field. Jim

Hey Diesel...if you want to FLASH your generator only just flash it. That means just SNAP and that is all. You can melt your regulator contacts if you over do it or worse. It works but take care.

Bat to arm polarizing should be completely safe.

You are bypassing the cutout relay, and field is not involved

ATT to ARM polarizing action on an "A" ckt gen/VR, doesn't put anymore current through the field contacts than normal everyday operation.

Correct. The field is energized from a connection to the output brush (which is connected to the Gen terminal)to ground through the regulator. A bad (or missing) regulator might not allow polarizing to happen. A sure way to force polarization is to ground the field terminal on the gen with a jumper. the spark that is going to happen is the result of the fact that the voltage also goes through the armature to ground. This does nothing foe the armature, but is the reason for the large spark. One second of contact is zero damage to the gen. Jim
