Hi all. I'm looking at a 1996 Kubota B20 with backhoe and loader for a first tractor (for me) on a 'rough' 5 acre lot we have. I need to do some more-or-less extensive landscaping (trenching, small stump removal, brush hogging, etc) and then a small garden plot with, I think, a one bottom plow. It looks in good shape. Asking $2,900 (Canadian). What do you think?

Thanks.

Sounds too good to be true. I know that Craigslist gets a lot of scams down here. Normally you can tell because the photos are professional quality, the email is usually a gmail and the item is someplace else and they will ship it to you. Just sayin'. But then, I don't know Canadian dollars versus US dollars.

Phill This part of the USA that unit would bring more than that for salvage. Running unit should be $4500 on up. Does it have the loader and backhoe. If it is a true B 20 should have loader/backhoe. Get me a serial number from the TRACTOR part, located on left front engine frame rail.

Backhoe, loader. Problem is I'm nowhere near it so I can't just pop over to see it. Waiting for second reply from seller. I'm expecting something to be wrong.

Here is a perspective on U.S. vs CDN., Nothing really to do with the exchange rate. Where I'm at, gas is $1.209 per Liter. U.S. gallon is 3.78 Liters = $4.57 CDN. The difference between an $.80 CDN dollar does not account for any of that. A LOT of your gas comes from CDN oil. Someone is getting intercourse without the benefit of lip lock.

Sounds like a scam to me. Here's the reply I got:

"Hello, This tractor has absolutely no mechanical problems, no accidents, the engine has no leaks or problems. I am letting it with shipping and handling included. The tractor is now in Winnipeg, Manitoba, ready to be delivered to its buyer with all the documents. Because I am not able to close the deal myself (I work a lot, 12 hours daily), I want to use a third party to handle the sale. This way we are both protected.

Let me know if you're interested and if you have questions."

Tell him you've got a brother in law in Winnipeg, and you need directions so he can come over and see it. You'll never hear from him again. He doesn't have the tractor- just a picture of one he got off the internet. I'll bet he also said he'll ship it, and if you don't like it, he'll come get it and refund your money.

If you go to Bing or Google and type in "Kubota B20 2900" you'll see all kinds of Craigslist posts all over Canada, most of which were flagged. It looks like a typical scam. Like Mike said, tell him you have a relative in Winnipeg, you'll never hear from him again. Sorry Phil.

I was thinking of that. As for shipping: " I am letting it with shipping and handling included."

"...letting it...."? I figure he usually runs this scam on renters - my daughter almost got caught by that once.

I just shot back "No." and now the ad's been deleted - Craig's List.
