Electric Company Funny

Friday I called the electric company to change the account from my wife's name to mine (figured it was time after 17 years, no sense rushing into things) to make things easer for me now (she is in KY taking care of her mother). So I call the electric company and tell them what I want to do and why, We can do that for you she said. Ok I will need your full name date of birth and your SS number, Why? To make sure you don't have an outstanding balance due us from an old account and to see if we need a security deposit or not. Well OK, And I gave her the information and puts my on hold for 5 min's. She comes back on the line and says we cant do this you already have 2 accounts as of right now under your SS number. WHAT! You have 2 accounts that you have had sense 1971 and the other is from 2004 and we cant start a 3rd one. WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? In 1971 I was in the 5th grade! OH How were you paying your bill then? OK something is really screwed up here but GOOD. What are the address on these accounts? She tells me and I start laughing and she wants to know what's so funny? That is my mom and dads house and barn. How did you get my SS number on those accounts in 1971? Well that's the SS number that was given to us then and is still on them now so we cant start a 3rd one. Ok let me call my parents and have them call you to get this straiten out. Called mom and told her what was going on and she got a laugh about it till she figured out I was serious about it. Well she called the electric company and got it straiten out and called to tell me so.

Well today I went up to see them and to find out what the deal was. Well it seams that in 1968 mom and dad got there SS numbers as well as me and my sisters SS numbers all at the same time. In 1971 they bought some ground and built a new house on it, I kind of remembered that this was about the time dad started to ware glasses. Well I guess they asked for his SS number to set the account up and he grabbed my SS card thinking it was his and gave them my number by mistake. Thinking back on it now it makes sense, How else could an 18 year old go to the bank and get several $15000 loan to buy machinery at a sale to use and sell. God I wonder how many times dad did that over the years till I turned 16 and needed my SS card to get my drivers license and kept it after that? Oh as of Monday the bill will be in my name at home now. Bandit

As I mentioned before, a few days ago a letter from and insurance company addressed to my father appeared in our mailbox with the words "Guaranteed Dental Coverage" in big letters emblazoned on the front.

My father died on Father's Day, 1985.

Banditfarmer: Be glad your parents are still around to help straighten this issue out. My first wife passed away just about 20 years ago. She did the majority of the bookkeeping. In the early 1990s was when many businesses started wanting your SS# and such added to current accounts. She used her number on a number of the household accounts. Including the electric bill and phone bill. When she passed I had one heck of a time getting those bills put into my name only because they wanted HER approval to remover HER SS#. The darn electric company was the hardest to deal with. I finally had my lawyer deal with them on it.

I keep getting info from a company that wants to cremate me - but I'm not ready to go yet!

According to the county sheriff. My wife has a warrant out for her arrest. From the county I moved from. She died in 2004. I gave up trying to get it cleared up. All the paper work was sent in even had a Texas Ranger (friend of the family) call them. She is still wanted. My father who died in 2003 is still getting mail. My mother who died in 2013 is being sued by some company from Houston.Over a car she bought in 2014.

I heard on 60 minutes that there are over 1 million people over 110 years old getting Social Security. People are living longer today. You think SS is a mess too?

My wife's nephew died about 15 years ago at age 20 from a childhood genetic disorder. He had had a wreck about three years earlier that was being "settled" by lawyers and insurance companies (it was his fault). After his death one of the law firms kept sending threatening letters. His dad even sent copies of the death certificate, explaining he had no estate to seize since he was only 20 at the time of his death. The letters kept on coming for a couple of years, including personal visits from a local constable (serving papers...) Finally, his dad filled out a change of address form at the post office, listing the address and space number at the cemetery. Seems to have worked...

After Mom passed, we did a change of address to foward any mail to our address so we could keep up with her final bills...

Got a letter a week later addressed to her saying..

"Congratulations on your move! We can help you in your new location."

About 15 years ago one of my best friends died in a truck accident, Most of the bills were in his name and his wife had a hard time getting things straiten out. The electric co would not change it to her name so she didn't pay the pill and they came out to turn it off. She was home when they came out to turn it off and told them what was going on. While they were there she called the electric co and said I have money in hand to pay the bill that I will give them as well as a copy of my late husbands death cert and if you close his account and let me open one now, She handed the electric co guys the phone and they verified everything and handed the phone back to her. She got a new account in her name and the power was never shut off. She had all ready tried to do the same thing at there office but they would not do it, But once the workers showed up they did change it. I never did figure out why they did it the way they did. Goofy to say the least. It took her over a year to get everything straiten out 2 years with the insurance companies settling his estate. I did the best I could to help her out but man some of those people were just plane nuts! Bandit
