JD 1530 thoughts??

Last week you guys gave me some VERY insightful information on a JD 2010 tractor. It appears you have saved me a number of headaches in addition to a lot of money. Thank you.

There is a JD 1530 diesel for sale here by a local dealer for around $6,000. Overall appearance is average, I have not got up on the seat yet. Before I wasted my time I wanted to ask the gentlemen (and ladies) here about their experience and knowledge on the 1530.

Do I understand it correctly that the only plant for these tractors was in Germany? Should that make me hesitant? (I'm not one of the people who put German engineering on a pedestal, although I respect it)

JD 1530's are decent utility tractors. I would think they as much American engineered as German. I suggest to check the coolant PH and test hyd's at operating temp. Does tractor have hyd ind pto or hyd hi-lo?
 
I guess they were ok but I was not to impressed. They were made in Manhiem Germany. I think you could find something better unless it happened to be like new.
 

I've run the larger 1830 (German built 4 cyl, 8 speed tractor)

Only things I found different was the diff lock pedal was on the left side and the U shaped shift pattern.

If it's in good shape, should be a nice tractor.
 
My brother bought a new 1530 in the early seventies and he still has it. I have driven the tractor alot and really like it. He used the tractor for just about everything. About 12 years ago he had the engine rebuilt steering rebuilt and parts were no problem. He also has a 4010 to run a manure pump, a 2950, 2955 and a 6400 for haying and a Gehl skid steer. The 1530 has given him less problems than the others.
 
1530 were good tractors when new and if taken care of. They are getting really old now and could of suffered a lot of abuse if a loader or barn scraper tractor. See if you can find out some history on it.
