Last Time a Sales Person Lied To You?

Happened to me a couple of weeks ago; but discovered today! A New 2.2 cu.ft Whirlpool Microwave from HH Gregg. Was told it was made in the USA; but not in stock. 2 smaller ones were made in the USA. Got it today, opened it up, got it going, & started to take the box to the garage, & then noticed MADE IN CHINA! That salesperson is going to hear from me tomorrow before they close, & they are going to take it back! I specifically told Him to make sure it was not Made in China! I could not have made it any clearer to him!!!

(quoted from post at 00:03:50 03/28/15) It is EASY to tell when a salesperson is lying. Their lips move!

Thats what i thought when i read the title. I bought a GE microwave a few years ago, and registered it online. Withina week one of the 4 emails i have on yahoo for dealing with strangers was swamped with spam. Never again will I buy a GE product.

The last time he said anything, just like a politician. But I repeat myself, they're both salesmen TDF

Was the email address that got spammed the one you provided to GE?

If it wasn't, or there is any chance it wasn't, that blows your theory right out of the water.

It's just how you worded the statement. If you'd just said, "Within a week, the email address I provided to them was swamped with spam."

Good luck finding one not made in China. Does one really exist? A few years ago I wanted a made in USA drill press. Everything in the stores locally was made in China. So I settled on a delta press, made in china.

Some of the home heating & cooling equipment being sold today also says "Made in America" But the truth of the matter is, the majority of the unit is assembled in Mexico, and a few pieces are put on here in the states making the product "Made in America"

One of my boys , An automotive engineer by trade, doing consulting work in south Texas reported. A tunnel ,legal, continued into Mexico where products were built, put on a trolley of sorts traveled underground where a small part was installed. The unit was them labeled made in USA. I have read that a town in china has the name USA where products are made them labeled Made in USA.

Same with batteries. I was in a battery warehouse in Dallas picking up a load. None of the batteries were marked. Then noticed a shelf with stickers for different battery brands. Same battery just different brand markings. All made in Mexico.

I picked up a "made in the USA" name brand battery powered razor from the PX in the late 80's. Got it home and went to put batteries in it and a sticker inside the battery compartment said "made in China". When I pulled the head off to clean it there was another "made in China" sticker. I honestly believe that the razor shipped as the body and the head. Once here a worker snapped that head on and it was packaged with "made in the USA" in big red letters on the package. I think they need to define "made" and "assembled".

As far as sales people go. I have no idea about the store where you got it but if you go to any box store most of the sales staff have absolutely no idea about anything they are selling or only know what the manager told them.

Thats like my Better Built Truck Box.

Bought it at Big R, and inside it said "Designed In USA!", then right below it in MUCH smaller letters, it said, "Made in Mexico"...

Still, a good box for what I am doing with it! :)

We bought a new dryer a year ago. The whole side of the box was stamped with huge letters - Proudly assembled for you in Atlanta Georgia (I can't recall what big city). I've had to replace parts of course. They all say made in China. Assembled is the operative word.

bought a farm tractor July 2nd of 2014 wanted it to bale hay, I ask "does the hydraulic PTO work?" answer was yes. The truth---NO---it did not work, would turn the PTO with out anything hooked to it. spending about $2000 to get it fixed along with a few other minor things that I was not aware of.

Speaking of salesmen, our daughter took her car in to the Hyundai dealer in Omaha for an oil change last week. While waiting, she wandered out onto the showroom and looked at new cars since the lease on her present one expires in August. She did talk briefly with a salesman.

They must have gotten her name and phone number off the ticket in the service department, 'cause she's averaged three high pressure sales calls per day since. One call even proposed an appointment for her to come in and "discuss colors". Gimme a break! These guys give whole new meaning to the word "sleaze".

Just because she's a young unattached female they assume she will be pliable. I'll guarantee you when she does make a move it will be on her terms or no deal. She'll have done her homework and will know exactly what she wants and exactly what she will pay. She knows how to say "No" and she knows how to walk out of a door, and has no problem with doing either.

I bought a clutch kit for the one ton directly from Hays. I specifically asked them if it was of domestic manufacture. They assured me that they manufacture all of their clutch parts.

Of course when it got here it was labeled "made in Mexico". I called them up and gave them an ear-full. I should have sent it back but I needed to get the pickup on the road.

The "Made in USA" vs "Made anywhere else" battle was completely lost years ago. The government killed American manufacturing and they did it intentionally on the altar of the wacko environmentalism traitors. Anyway, that war is lost so just get a microwave that works well and move on.

Two years ago, I bought a small lawn tractor trailer from Sam's.
Had printed on the box Made in America with American flag.
Got it home and was assembling it --MADE IN CHINA--sticker on every part.
I stopped and called the Manufacturer. He had all kind of excuses of which I can't remember.
I took it back to Sam's and told them the reason.
That was two years ago and they still have these trailers with American Flag on the box! !

My biggest let down was when I replaced a water pump on my GMC van. I didn't want to go through that again. I bought my water pump from Napa to be sure I got the best. Got it home made in china. Stan

I bought over $9K worth of flooring for my home. When shopping, I specified it had to be American made, and it was, as far as I could tell.
This was a large store that sells lots of flooring, so I asked them how many people are concerned with buying American, and he said "very few, you are the first one in a long time".
Sad thing is, My area used to be home of a large NAFCO flooring manufacturing corporation, where hundreds of people worked.
Vast majority of people just don't care ! !

Bought new car in 2011, sales manager stated I had to use Dexos oil for warranty reasons and it would greatly extend changes. Owner of dealership and service manager tells me to change oil every 3000 miles. I just go by oil service life, works for me.

Got a replacement fuel pump through a friend that runs an auto electric shop. He was so proud that he got one "Made in Canada" - turns out it was designed in Canada, but manufactured in China. (So far it still pumps the fuel OK.) Not impressed.

Tire dealer I have done business with for years lied about repairing front tire on a backhoe I owned at the time. I was using it to push back some fence rows and apparently got in some locust thorns. Took tire in and they said it had to have a new tube. Tried to avoid brush but a week later flat again and another new tube. Third time the backhoe hadn't been out of the machine shed and went flat again. Took it back in and this time I didn't just leave it for repair - I watched the kid break it down. Low and behold - tube had two recent patches on it. Brand new tubes each time? They lost a lifetime customer from since when I was 16 years old - 63 now.

I worked for a company that made heavy industrial pipe fittings. We had steel pipe stock from US manufacturers, but also from Poland, Romania, Korea and Mexico. If the pipe was heated and formed into a fitting, it could be called made in USA, even though the actual steel was not.

"

It was. I rotate them, and hadnt used that one for two months before or after.

My local NAPA store owner claims that things made in China are manufactured to whatever the buyers specifications are.
I can't say I disagree with him. With that said, there is plenty of junk that is produced and put on the market to no specifications other than it must be cheap.

The greatest problem with china items, in my opinion, is the quality, or the lack of quality of the material the items are made of. That's to say nothing about the millions of jobs this country has lost
Lowest quality steel, aluminum, plastic in the world.

If you're a salesman why bother to tell the truth? No one will believe you anyway. I sold cars for a while, was working a deal on a new Grand Marquis with a couple and they weren't going to buy easy. He was a retired white goods salesman from Sears. Ended up putting him in our training manager's demo. We went back and forth over price him nickeling me down little by little. "I can't afford that much" "I'm on a fixed income", I countered with your new car will have a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, it'll get better gas mileage. I finally get him to sign and even held gross on the deal (not enough to bust out of a mini deal). He has the car about a week and comes back to the dealership yelling and screaming "you sold me a car with a broken gas gauge" I get the car checked in for service buy him and his wife a soda and get them calmed down. I get a call from the service department "Baker they've hardly driven this car, only about 80 miles since you delivered it, they haven't used it enough to burn much out of it" but service pulled the tank and checked the float anyway. I asked him if he remembered me telling him his new car would get better mileage? He says "yes", I point out I wasn't lying, they should probably get 120 miles or so before they get down a 1/4 of a tank. I put them back in the car, get a phone call a few days later that his birthday (that I programmed for him in the key less entry) didn't work anymore. I figure out they must of unhooked the battery when they pulled the tank, ask the guy if he'll be home that evening, drive to his house and re-program the code for him. He slimes me on the 30 day owner survey, claims I never contacted him. Here's the deal the bonus on the 30 day and 180 day survey would of been more than I got on commission. About that time I figured out I need to find another job because this one sucked.

Was he lying to you, or did not know the ones that were coming in the next shipment were made in China? A person working in an appliance shop does not know where an appliance is made until it is on the floor and he looks at the tags.
