OT B S Stator Question

I found a Briggs and Stratton stator amongst my dad's stuff. It's in a box. I checked it at both terminals with an ohm meter and get a good reading. But I also get a reading from the metal core to both of the terminals. I want to ask is this common or should I not get a reading from the core to the terminal?

There are several different stator configurations.
